My understanding on the matter is when done as chicks it doesn't really bleed(which I've found true with the splicing thing ) and as an adult it still can be done just it would bleed more and hurt more( not 100% on that last one ). If it gets spliced then it can't rip but if you toe punch then it can rip, bleed, and look nasty.I have yet to mark a chick, so I don't know. I am assuming that it gets caught on something and rips, and then as a larger adult it would/could be a problem? But if it is OK to mutilate this part of their body as a chick wouldn't it also be OK as an adult? Would a free range, rough and tumble environment prevent more opportunities for a toe punch hole to rip?
