1T/gal keeps my waterers clean. I don't think my vinegar is different.

A fellow I met at a show a year ago puts in so much vinegar that the water doesn't freeze in the winter.

Concerning water and mold/algae... Remember 2 things. .. algae needs sun and lack of chlorine. So for those of you who are watering with city water (chlorine is a terrible idea imo) at least you don't have mold. Lol
That said. .. I suspect many are confusing mold with algae... Not the same thing.
Just like all water tanks around here... We keep them out of the sun and keep gold fish in them... problem solved... Assuming your gold fish are large enough that they don't become snacks. ;-)
The tanks over 1500 gallons have large outlets so we use Koi type goldfish in those.
My chickens have never had anything but Koi filtered rain (we do filter the house water a little more than that) ;-)

That's about the ratio of ACV/water that I use, with great results.

I've been able to increase the amount of time that it takes for the water to freeze in winter by adjusting the amount of ACV higher, but I haven't been able to keep it from freezing at all. Does this guy also use water/bowl heating devices or just really put in a ton of ACV?

I've read of putting vegetable glycerin in the automatic waterers (this happens to be in reference to rabbits) to keep it from freezing. Never did learn how that turned out.

I do not believe everything online. There is a lot of bad information online from seemingly reputable sources.

And I never said that it had no value. In fact I do like it for some things.

My question is still out there. I would like someone to explain to me how it keeps the water clean with actual evidence. Not because everyone does it.

It doesn't. Pure and simple. All it does is make the water acidic enough that some pathogens cannot grow there, which is why vinegar is approved by the USDA for canning purposes, as it is the only known food grade agent that can kill botulism.

In short, it can keep the water from growing some nasties in the hot weather and may even kill nasties that are known to spread from one bird to another via shared watering.
