I am so terribly disappointed. ( tears)The people who were suppose to come thru with the check which would let me
go to Columbus and pump the septic system have not fulfilled their financial obligations and will not have it to me until
next Monday. So the septic is being pumped anyway. I will have to call the breeder and tell her the deal is off. Have
been working on this outcross deal for over 7 months. Now I have no outcross for next year. I will think of something
over the winter. I am so angry. I am going to do some housework and try and calm down. That's how angry I am.

Karen, I am so sorry that you won't be able to make it to the show! And all for something so inglorious as an uncooperative septic system, too! It isn't fair! You must really be angry if you are doing housework to calm down - it has the exact opposite effect on me! What a disappointment to see seven months of work blow up! Maybe you and the breeder can work something else out? Well, at least you are getting a visit from your son and his wife. That has to be a comfort!

Surely it would be possible to ship your birds for much less $ than for you driving to get them .Anybody going to Columbus from Karen's area who could bring birds back for her ? There must be somebody out there.

I am so very sorry to hear this. Is there anything we here in the thread can do to help? Transport birds for you? Or is it a financial thing?

Speaking about Light Sussex. A pullet bred (sold as a chick to a local poultryman) took best English at the show last month (Truro Classic). I thought her tail angle was to high from the picture. But it seems as that she was just standing odd. I have several here that are just as good as her. And to think I have not opened a SOP in 5 years . Some call it luck. I call it using my hand to select breeders. Production for me is always first...

With Sussex.... I am feeling everything, weight selection at different weeks of ages. How deep the keel is etc.

I do the same thing with Orps. Depth of keel, and a good "bread basket" are very important, as well as wide hip and pelvic bones , combined with a decent length of body.Don't forget a good strong head, with a sturdy beak, to shovel in food too. In Orps, the shorter the back, the fewer eggs you'll get.
