Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

I know bob had mentiond before that he was working on a list for starters. He was always willing to email or pm you contacts for who has what. To help out could we post on here a list of who we know has what and their contact. Might be a good think as long as the people listed don't mind being listed. Just a thought.

Maybe to eliminate trying to guess who wants to be contacted and guessing how much info anyone else wants put out there,
we could each post what we have and what we are willing to sell, give, trade, etc.
????

I have some hatchery white Leghorn hens and my roo is half white Leghorn. (IDK about quality and SOP, so...)
I have a black Jersey Giant hen and I'm working on getting a roo, but the earliest I would have anything would be next spring, if then.
I have a Cochin (Bantam, Frizzled), again, no purebred roo to go along with her.

I'm working on my rooster situation.
I have one possible opportunity at a JG roo this winter.
I have no offers for Bantam Cochin roo for my Frizzle.

I live in the Deep South, if anyone is interested in buying, selling, or trading, I would make arrangements by PM.

teachick,
For which of your breeds are you wanting to obtain top quality Heritage Stock?
Bob Blosl started a Heritage Bantam thread which is a sister thread to this one with helpful people:

And there is this thread for Bantam Cochin :

Here is a breeder of Champion Black Giants for 25 yrs. . Has won Champion Black Giant at the huge Ohio National show
for the last 15 yrs. Got his foundation from the lady who created the BJG.
http://classicheritagepoultry.webs.com/blackjerseygiants.htm Maybe get a male and female from this breeder and breed
back and forth with your female. Hum...see that win in FL? Maybe this Ohio breeder comes down your way? Can't hurt to ask.
Ah, here is a 2011 ad., so he is on BYC too.

BJG take about 2 years to mature, I have read. For a bit more than 25 chicks,
you could get 2 adults. That would give you a head start 2 ways. 1st, they are grown and you could start breeding this Spring.
Second, tell Tim you seek "foundation" stock and he will have already approved them for worthiness in his flock so you don't
have too. You already know what they will grow up like. The 25 chicks are 125. total plus shipping. 2 adults are 70. total plus shipping.
You could use http://www.boxesforbirds.com and they will size the boxes for you. Or maybe you could get the birds a ride down
to your place and meet them at Newnan Georgia or some other big show near you. Tim is NPIP so he can ship interstate.
Where are you located?
Best,
Karen

Thanks! I like them. <grinning like a proud momma>
Right now, I'm trying to get my laying flock and practices established so that I'm producing those three dozen eggs I "need" through the winter months.
I'm just not passing up any opportunities with my chosen heritage breeds, which are Jersey Giant and Bantam Cochin (I don't guess the Bantam part is really heritage per say, but it's my other specialty breed).

I'm also getting a flock going for my DS. He's got so many plans, it'd take five breeders a hundred years to do everything he wants to do. I'm working with him on the goal of saving every heritage breed known to mankind. lol
