Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

Didn't take long to figure out who 'king of the White Dorking' is or at least someone with considerable knowledge.

When I googled Dorkings, his listing came up very prominently and I will admit, those whites are beautiful.

I honestly don't even know how many colors they come in. I do know they lay a white egg and some have longer legs than others. I would have room for a few if I could talk my son into them. The new facility is his 'baby' and we have talked about a bunch of breeds to play with while working on the SOP RED NNs but Dorkings have never even come up in conversation.

I wouldn't even know where to get good ones. Never even seen a pic of a red one ...seems like everyone os pushing the silver colored ones.

Perhaps you can give me some information...(NO BS)!!!!
Oh sorry this is Javas, not Dorkings.

http://www.javabreedersofamerica.com/javas/auburn/ Wow, this is great article. So clear and concise.
The guy who wrote this article seems to have some of the best Auburns. I think he is outside of Chicago.
I wonder if his "Fair" is coming up soon.
Best,
Karen

No problem...the Java is a very interesting bird. I do lean to the blacks, I suppose because those are the ones I've seen.

I love the Black Java and leaned blacks but I have black Austalorps.. No more pure black birds for me.. Time for a new color, I don't like white chickens either.

Ron, I trolled my family by saying I was going to build the new coop for "black Naked Necks" and they were mad LOL! My family loves NN but I took it to next level and they got sick of them. They want to see Buff Orps or Blue Cochins..

Well what color do you want and how hard do you want to work? Craig Russell has all the varieties. He likes to create/recreate colors, so he has a lot of projects. He would be 'Mr. Dorking'. He knows who has what also. Of the recognized colors, the Reds are in good shape and can be found pretty easily. RC Reds aren't in the SOP, but are historically correct. YHF has really nice looking whites. SGs are evidently in need of work and lots of it. Those three should be the varieties where work is concentrated. That being said, Dark Dorkings can be found thru craig and they were once in the SOP and are recognized in the UK. Colored is eye candy, but I don't think it breeds true. I think you need male and female lines. Its in the SOP and it sucks everyone in and then they find out how hard the color is. Cuckoo is also in the SOP, but is nothing special.

The birds tell on us. They either pat us on the back, or tell us to sit back down. Joseph's birds speak for him.

Consider the White Chantecler, a breed that is on the endangered list, yet there are a few excellent strains available in the US. Cold weather birds that nothing will compete with, fast growing for both production and meat. Excellent club that provides support and insight.
I like your signature.

Your first and last point are good points.

Everyone wants to see Buff Orps, and Blue Cochins. Must be the round and fluffy thing, LOL.

Any suggestions on trying a new breed? I'm going to try out some black Ameraucanas hoping to get atleast a trio from them (I only ordered a couple

) once I get the chicks hopefully this week along with more black Australorps and Naked Necks. But I am thinking about adding a new coop with a new breed, I just need to clear some thorn bushes witch is not going to be fun but oh well..

I'm looking for an American Class breed since I have English and Any Other Class but no American. I want a good heavy dual bird and cold hardy. I've been looking at the Moltted Java and golden laced Wyandotte and like them both.

I love my Javas!
