he's ok now, but what do you think my dog's problem was?

It happened to my dog too and I suspected the many varieties of wild mushrooms popping up faster and sneakier than I could get rid of. We also had a lot of toads around this summer.

I am sure, having had lots of labs, that it was the result of eating something nasty. The body was ejecting it all from both ends and obviously did the job well as the dog is back to normal. I am also sure it won't be your last similar experience!!

The super-watery-and-mucusy diarrhea squirts makes me think probably not epilepsy (also there was nothing resembling any sort of seizure state) nor bloat (and he did not seem to be in any pain)... (?)

Sounds like toad is the likeliest possibility, since others report same effects.

Not a whole lot I can DO about it, since we have few adult but LOTSA baby toads around the place all the time... but it's still good to know (or anyhow strongly suspect).

Thanks very much folks!

Pat

my dog did this the other day but it was because she ate a tub of country crock

oh and the marshmallows, cereal boxes (just the cardboard thank you) unpopped popcorn, leather leash (pooped the snap)

OMGoodness you are all making my laugh. The illness isnt funny but the image of all these naughty dogs eating things. We have the same problem here with our cavalier. His favorite is the heels off of my shoes. He learned how to open closet doors just to get to them. Oh and the cradboard boxes, my brand new text book, just to name a few things.

Sorry Pat going abit off topic - but the cardboard stories reminds me of our Cane Corso.

He came to us just before his first birthday - a rehome for displaced aggression. The family getting rid of him sent him a birthday present that we let the dog “open”. No cardboard has been safe from him since. Can be a whole box or just a flap or piece – the dog must destroy it.

mmmm cardboard

Pictures from his first birthday in 2008 - I can honestly recommend NOT letting your dog open their cardboard contained gifts
