Heterakis Gallinarum Worms ??

Okay, I will pick some up. What would the dosage be ? and we also recently got 4 Roen ducks. Would they need de-worming also ?

I took my LGD sheepdog puppy to the vet for a checkup and when they did a stool sample they found Heterakis Gallinarum worms.
The vet said it is very rare and it must be from the chickens or ducks because the LGD unfortunately eats there poop

I did some digging of my own and found out it cause's blackhead in turkeys, which can be deadly to turkeys and is bad because next spring we are thinking about raising turkeys for meat. . I have heard of wazine, safegaurd, and flubenvet for de-wormers and any advice whatsoever would be appreciated.

Thank You,
Ann

This JUST happened to us. I have the result of stool sample from my new pup and it's positive for the same thing so now I'm trying to find out how to treat my chickens for this. I have a small flock of three hens. What did you end up using to deworm them? What about the coop and run?

Thanks!

Also, I've been reading about it and these are the resources I've found:

I've read all the material here, but still am wondering...

Can my hens not forage anymore?
Do I need to cover their run with rocks, sand, or some other material to prevent them from foraging the ground?
Also, do I need to completely clean out & treat the coop during the treatment?
Or do I just keep them on the medicine all the time?
Are the eggs safe to eat?

There's a lot of differing info online and I guess I am just hoping there is a known, effective protocol for eliminating this altogether.

Thank you!!! :)

Hello!
Your dogs are eating that yummy chicken poo, and the worm eggs are 'just passing through', doing no harm.
Worming the chickens with Fenbendazole will kill their current worm load, but they will be reinfected, because your property has this parasite, and your chickens aren't locked inside 24/7.
By all means raise the turkeys separately!!! The chickens will usually be fine, and the turkeys (or peafowl) will be dying. Not good!
Maybe try a very few turkeys, and see how things go? They may not be able to be free ranged, you will have to see.
Because the parasite is found in worms, etc, you can't really eliminate it from your ground.

I don't have any turkeys, just the chickens, but they have lost the feathers around their vents and have redness to that same area.
