Hey!, Come in out of the rain!

So much rain, some chickies stay in the dry parts of the run others don't care and get wet.All most time to go out into the very wet mushy yard and run.Guess it could be worse I could be in Texas. So ill count my blessings and hope for no tornados.
If it don't stop my chickies will have anew swiming pool....

Well, I've gotten another 3 inches of rain over night. My run is just a mess. All the chicks dusting holes have turned into lakes! I opened the coop and one of my roos ran out in the pouring rain and he's just prancing around out there crowing like he's the master of the elements

I used to live in Zeballos - west coast of Vancouver Island - or hell and gone - rained ALL the time. My kids were young then and they played outside all the time. None of the kids there seemed to even notice the weather. Chickens come from rain forests back in the day. I think there are lots of beings madder than a wet hen.

Hi, Newchicks here:) As my name states I'm new to the chicken world...and loving it. I was worried about my 2 chickens being out in the rain, when the barn is dry and warm. from what I've read so far it doesn't hurt them to get wet. I was afraid they would get sick with a cold or something. I'm from Kansas and I see someone in Missouri is getting drenched to.

A wife of 34 years, with an old barn cat, an old black lab, a 30 year old horse that just passed and now 2 chickens that showed up at my husbands work, he brought home to me.

Grand Rapids, Michigan area here... We had a 100% chance of rain today, and most of it heavy rain. Hurricane Ike's aftermath is expected to track through our area eventually. The rain we're getting today isn't even hurricane-related yet.

I'm wondering if this is a precursor to winter blizzard activity; I keep imagining, "What if this was snow?". One inch of rain equals one foot of snow, or something like that.

We've had several winters now with very heavy snows, including a record-setting snowfall total last year.

I'm at 11 1/2 inches of rain since Thursday night. I know for some of you in other parts of the country this might not seem unusual, but for SW Michigan it's wild! Like the Chicken Lady said, Ike's aftermath is supposed to roll through in the next few days so I'm thinking about either passing out little life jackets to my chicks or building an ark

And after 3 days of pouring rain, yes some of the chicks are still out in it!

I'm 43 years old and I can't ever remember getting this much rain in such a short period of time. I guess the good news is other than getting about an inch of water in my pantry everythings in pretty good shape.

This was just the tailend of Ike passing by, I can only imagine what our friends in Texas went though.

I'm just east of Lake ontario, where lake effect is common, rain and snow. This has been a strange season though, with days of heavy rain non stop. We've had to tractor out the horse paddock twice so far this year after the mud was thick and ankle deep. The chickens don't seem to mind the rain as long as it's not windy.

We have also said "what if this were snow?"

yikes, it's almost here.

You're right. We've gotten first snowfall in October before.

On a positive note, after an extremely dry August, this ought to do wonders for the fall color display. I was a bit worried that the trees wouldn't have as nice of colors as usual.
