awww I have a story to tell you! Well my dad so officially no more chickens like 2 months ago.... Until we went to my poultry show. Their were saw sebrights, and he fell in love. So the next day our friend who works at a vet called and said she had a rooster that needed a new home, (The vet is in NYC

) ROOSTER? we said? She said yeah, well we said we would ask our dad knowing it would be a no, and hung up. We asked him and he said ONLY if it was a sebright. so we call her back and ask her what it is.... AND GUESS WHAT! It was a 15 week old sebright rooster xDxD

CHICKEN MATH!!! AND now that we have one more rooster, I am talking my dad into getting some more hens for him since we have to many rooster xDDDDD maybe some sebright hens and breed them???? Thought you would appreciate this story =]

That is a great story, Caleb! I am interested in some chicks next spring if you breed the Sebrights.... what color?

So I got sick of the birds trying to roost on my brooder and never on their roosts... I threw together two 4' roosts and screwed them into the side of the poop boards on either side ...

They immediately started using them and that same night, two of them were roosting on the high roosts :)

Caleb, that is hilarious, and yes the hens should be seabrights so you can breed them ;)

Toney, isn't it always that wat? Build 'em something super nice, with all kinds of comforts and conviences, and they ignore it. Slap a couple of 2x4's together and they think they've died and gone to heaven. LoL

We got a golden rooster... He has a crossed beak.. Does anyone know if that is genetic? or just bator mess up? anyways I dont plan on getting the hens till next spring so It might be a while untill I have chicks.... I have 8 different roosts all at diffferent levels... Younger birds on bottom, and the more dominant birds on top.. Some just like to be on the same rung as their rooster, and some want to go as high as they can... I suggest keep that pattern going until you have a "V" 12" in between and 16" down... thats what I did, and I can now hold 40 birds in a 8x6x7 coop....

Hey Caleb, my underdtanding is that it can be any of genetics, injury and young age, malnutrition, or a combination of any/all of the above. Most breeders will discard a crossed beak immediatly just to be safe. Kinda surprised he didn't end up being truly culled. Only way to know for sure if to breed him.

And Tony, sorry for randomly jumping in, I forgot that I haven't actually introduced myself here. Caleb pointed me to your thread awhile ago so I could check out how you did your run fencing for my own project. I love what you did with your coop and run and have been lurking ever since to see what other ideas I could pick up.

So my stupid, moronic, dumb , birds won't stop trying to roost on the brooder .... even with a piece of OSB at a 45 degree angle .... crapping on the babies below .... because the top opens, it sucks to take the OSB off and on all the time ..... so I am trying this ......
