Hi everyone!
frow.gif

I made bbq sausages and scalloped potatoes last night. Tonight will be something with ham, not sure yet.

It was hot here yesterday also.We usually are in the 50's daytime, 30's nighttime. Yesterday wewere 76 day,48 night. DH works an hour away, it was 104 there yesterday! At least he has airconditioning. Our temps will go back to normal on thur. Still too cold to start planting.

I am doing better now after my mom's passing. The experience between this and my dad's passing was so very different. My stepmother kept me and my sister at arms length and wouldn't let us (or anyone else) be with him when he passed. Our stepfather kept us right there with him and we have been a part of ALL decision making before and after.

I learned how to cook and bake from my mom. She was happiest in the kitchen, so even though it is hot this week, I am baking and cooking to be close to her. Yesterday was victorian milk bread and carrot cake. I kept getting distracted so didn't get much done. Today is tortillas, sugar cookies, coffee cake and focaccio con olive bread.

Puppies are doing great!! Everytime DH and I feel sad about the recent deaths in our families, we go look at the puppies. It really makes you feel better.

Here is proud papa

I was wondering if anyone had a good bread pudding recipe(without raisins), my mom loved bread pudding. I haven't ever had it and have some stale bread that needs to be used.

Thanks for all your support through this AWFUL year!!

Monica.. I am glad you are finding strength and comfort in your kitchen and with your pooches. When I miss my Daddy, I go out in my gardens and piddle around ...or I sit and peel tangerines ..cuz he LOVED tangerines!

With every hardship, comes ease..

There's chicken wings awaiting the ruling... fried, dyed or laid to the side...

DH and I celebrated a milestone last night with dinner at a place I have always wanted to try.

Tonight was loaded baked potato soup, a green salad with fresh baked whole wheat bread to warm our insides from the wet chilly weather. Snow showers tonight.

I'm glad you can find peace in the soothing rhythm of your kitchen and the comforting traditions passed to us by those we love.

I'll trade you one windy and in the 40s for one 100+ degrees and 7% humidity.

Congrats on the new apple tree! What kind did you get?

At 7 pm, it's still 89 degrees. The avg high for my city at this time of the year is 74. Today beat the previous record that was set over 50 years ago.

I'll take that 7% humidity, hot summer days around here come with at least 70% humidity.

It is a Winesap, he knew I was looking for one to replace the Cortland (I think) that we cut down due to age. I love Winesap but you cant get them at the store.

Ok...no fair! My son just told me its going to be 80 here on saturday. How's ya pull that one off so fast!

Like the others, I am also happy to hear that you're finding a way to connect to the memories of your mother in such a positive way. Not only does it give you some peace, but it allows the grandchildren to hold on to a piece of her as well.

I lost my father at the age of 18 and a sister 6 years ago. As with your memories, food often comes into play, mostly because certain dishes can usually be associated with special moments and times together as a family. Write down as much as you can so that you can pass these traditions onto those g-kids of yours.

There are a lot of bread puddings on the Internet and they really aren't difficult to do. Allrecipes is a good place to start, but in general, it's a matter of what you want to put into it. I usually keep mine lo-cal. Butter a dish, cut up the bread, melt a little butter and toss it with the bread, stir up some egg, milk, sugar, cinnamon, (raisins for me), and vanilla (or you could use a favorite liqueur if you prefer), pour over the bread, and bake until the knife comes out clean.

ams3651 - What a difference a day makes! Yesterday at this time it was 87. Today it is 68!!! It was still warm today, but the cooling trend is definitely on the way. I'm sorry it's coming your way.

A Winesap sounds FUN!!! I love apples and because of our generally wonderful weather, there are very few we can grow here. I hope you get some wonderful apples in the coming years! Do you can them? Make applesauce? Freeze?

Tonight was a YUMMY dinner! The grocery store had some wonderful burgundy and pepper marinated tri tip on sale that I grilled and served along with baked potatoes (microwaved and then tossed on the grill) and salad.

Hey ya all I would take the wind over the rain ice and snow we had for 2 days. Yup that is right got 2 inches of snow yesterday and then the rain that followed took it away.

Still on a drink eating but maybe soft foods today I am going to try it.

2 inches of snow! We had 91 yesterday with lots of sun. It was beautiful! We worked in the garden and turned the rot piles. Found bunches of grub worms and feed them to the 'girls' (My four wonderful chickens) they loved them.

We then cooked on the open pit steaks, bake potato and a side salad. I also made pepercorn dressing for the salad. It was yummy and such a relaxing evening.

Cheers to all you poor cold people out there~

I'll try and send some sun your way!!!

Its Wednesday! Backyard Buddies whats for "breakfast"? I am thinking ham and cheese quiche, hash browns on the side or sourdough waffles and bacon.

Last night was Taco pie and chocolate pie for dessert.
