Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

we had a picnic ham , mashed potatos and mac & cheese I found picnic hams yesterday at the store for $.39 a pound needless to say I bought 4 that are 10 -13 lbs for 3 and 4 dollars each.

I made a pasta salad for tonight. DH will grill burgers and dessert will be a cold beer! Its his Friday!

BYB Thank you for the congratulations for DS. I went to the ceremony thinking, this is no big deal. Well 10 minutes in and I was choking back tears. I had no idea how emotional it was going to be! He is my only child so I guess maybe that makes it worse, or maybe I am just a big baby!! I will definitely be thinking of you in 2 weeks when yours graduates. Tell him your crazy chicken buddy says congrats!

Whoa, drivers ed!! That's scary! We had our daughter take drivers ed. It wasn't anything close to what I expected. I took it in highschool and really learned a lot of good stuff. We paid a bundle for our daughter and I still had to teach her most of the sensible stuff

Every graduation is a milestone, when it comes to our kids. When DD graduated from elementary school, the dads were shocked as to how mature their little baby girls looked in their "grown-up" dresses. They were scheeming on how to keep the boys away

. Heck daughter is now 28 and dad is still scheeming and it is still not working

Dinner plans got changed. SO is craving sausage. So we're having sausages and onions and left over fried rice for dinner with a salad of course.
I'm starting the spaghetti today, it'll be better tomorrow and neither of us'll have to cook (except for the spagetti noodles). I just cut up a bunch of dried peppers and dried mushrooms and poured a jar of chopped tomatoes over it. I'll let it sit for a while, so the dried stuff can soak up the juices. That jar of tomatoes smelled like summer. You just don't get that with store bought! I'll be going out and using fresh herbs from the garden to season the sauce. We already have basil. I'm beginning to drool

I grilled a big chuck roast on the grill with apple wood yesterday....tonight I'm making beef stroganoff on a bed of white rice, with green beans, and home made pumpkin pie from scratch.....

You did Wednesday Breakfast for Dinner! It's contagious!

I suppose that "Breakfast for Dinner" is something most of us have in common here on BYC.

We've been having Taco Tuesday here. Our oldest grandson is trying to learn letters and sounds and he loves tacos so that's what we have. I usually make 2 pounds taco meat, but just this week I told DH that we might have to go to 3 pounds. We have many taco lovers here and they are always looking for leftovers. Sometimes, Wednesday is waffle day, but that's only when I'm feeling ambitious in the morning.

I have seen where people plan their menu using beef, chicken, pork, pasta, etc. for each day. I guess we like to live dangerously and have whatever suits our tastes on a specific day. I do plan a menu, but plans are always changing here so it's just a guideline.

Anyway, the chicken I took out to soak in buttermilk last night was still a bit frozen today. So, that will be for tomorrow. Tonight, I fixed Italian Beef that was in the freezer. Along with the sandwiches we had sliced Vidalla onions, peppers, and french fries. I baked chocolate chip cookies for the sweet tooth.

Yes, "leftover night". We do that one, a LOT!

I probably couldn't plan a week based on chicken night, beef night, fish night, etc. because I don't shop for meat weekly. Rather, I buy and stock up on whatever is on sale if the price is right. Thus, if the prices don't look that good for several weeks, I don't buy meat for several weeks and make do with what is in the freezer. However, that said, most weeks have a fish night and/or a vegetarian night.

I do gain a lot of ideas from you all, so I appreciate you sharing what you make each week. It inspires me to try new things.

Ahhhh thechickenchick! These emotional moments tend to sneak up on us, don't they. I'm sure it will for me in a couple of weeks as well. I can't believe your son is starting driver's ed! Oh my! We still have a year or so for that. They tightened the rules here in California in recent years, which is probably not a bad thing.

Dessert for dinner???

THAT was funny, FarmerDenise! Some days that's the PERFECT dinner!

How is everyone today?

I am at a total loss for supper! Sunday is a meal I usually plan days in advance. For some reason it is 2 hours from supper time and I have drawn a complete blank! Its hot in our "farm trailer" as my son lovingly refers to our home! So I am trying to stay away from using the oven. It is starting to resemble Mother Hubbard's Cupboard around here, so that doesn't help either!

I may just resort to leftovers! We have goulash, spaghetti, burritos, hash-browns, sausage gravy.... YEP! I just decided leftover night it is!! (There I go BYB stealing another one of your great ideas!)

Backyard Buddies, desert for dinner is one my mother came up with. She would make some rich desert, often using egg and it usually also included fruit of some kind. I have to get the recipe of whatever she made last time I visited. It was scrumptious.
There were the days we spend strawbery picking, when we came home we would clean them and put them in huge bowls of jello and fill up on the strawberry jello. We didn't even use whipped cream all the time. We did the same with raspberries.
Most days we ate very healthy balanced meals, so having a day of indulgence didn't matter. And it usually was still fairly healthy.
My mother also had a variety of cakes that she made, that incorporated nutritious and healthy ingredients: fresh fruit, nuts and seeds, fresh whole (unprocessed) milk, cheese and eggs.
Our dinner tonight has been simmering in the crockpot since last night: made from scratch with homegrown vegies spaghetti sauce and pasta with a green salad and homemade lemon pound cake (thanks to an aunt) or homemade banana nut bread for desert for those who want one. I usually go for fruit of some kind. I still have canned peaches, pears and plums from last year.
I also get lots of ideas from the folks who post on here. Including the recipes. Thanks everyone!
Oh and it also gives me the desire to cook, because lots of times there is little appreciation from the homefront
