Backyard Buddies, desert for dinner is one my mother came up with. She would make some rich desert, often using egg and it usually also included fruit of some kind. I have to get the recipe of whatever she made last time I visited. It was scrumptious.
There were the days we spend strawbery picking, when we came home we would clean them and put them in huge bowls of jello and fill up on the strawberry jello. We didn't even use whipped cream all the time. We did the same with raspberries.
Most days we ate very healthy balanced meals, so having a day of indulgence didn't matter. And it usually was still fairly healthy.
My mother also had a variety of cakes that she made, that incorporated nutritious and healthy ingredients: fresh fruit, nuts and seeds, fresh whole (unprocessed) milk, cheese and eggs.
Our dinner tonight has been simmering in the crockpot since last night: made from scratch with homegrown vegies spaghetti sauce and pasta with a green salad and homemade lemon pound cake (thanks to an aunt) or homemade banana nut bread for desert for those who want one. I usually go for fruit of some kind. I still have canned peaches, pears and plums from last year.
I also get lots of ideas from the folks who post on here. Including the recipes. Thanks everyone!
Oh and it also gives me the desire to cook, because lots of times there is little appreciation from the homefront
