Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Well ya all I am grounded. Doc's orders have to stay off the knee, having bleeding issues so am on presure and ice packs. My son helped me rig something so I can come on and say hi.

I really wanted to share with ya all what my Christmas present from my kids is. They went in together and bought me

A 10 piece set of RACHEL RAY PORCLAIN NON STICK COOKWARE IN ORANGE.

Can ya tell how excited I am. I have never had new pots and pans LOL. I know, sad hey. LOL. The best part is that my present was my 16 year old sons idea. He even went in with his own money. I have never got a present from my kids so I really didn't expect one. My daughters just have never done it. I think that this may just be a new tradition for them as they made me cry LOL. I also got 2 cooking knifes from Paula Dean's line. So it was a really shocking Christmas for me.

Thanks for letting me share.

Like I said I am grounded but I can't wait to use them.

Zookeeper I am sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with yor knee.

I am so jealous of your pans! That is exactally what I would love to have, yes even the color! I am a huge fan of Rachel. I know what you mean about new pans, my only new set was when I was 20! So its been awhile!! What a sweet gift from your children. I hope you can enjoy them soon.

DH bought me new pans about 12yrs. ago shortly after we got together. But at the time I had a housefull of 'renters' that my son had brought in(looooong story). They ruined my pans! I kept telling them they could only use my old ones, but what 20something will listen to that??? now, I have warped pans, dented pans, ones that have no non-stick coating left. These WERE very good pans and should have lasted many, many more years. I have already thrown three out because they were too far gone.

All year(well for several years), I have been telling DH I NEED NEW PANS!! When it was my turn for a new gun/rifle earlier this year, I told him that I would rather have a new set of pots and pans, they cost about the same; so what happened? I got NIETHER!! Maybe this year??

Congrats ZOO, don't be too eager to use them; HEAL FIRST!!! Otherwise you will be back where you are now next year. Get better soon!

BB-I LOOOOVE Tommy burgers!!! I haven't had a REAL one in ssssooo long! There is one in Valencia that isn't too bad, maybe next time we are in the city we can go there. It has been more years than I can remember the last time I went to the ORIGINAL tommy's. THANKS, now all I will want all day is a chili-cheese burger and chili-fries!!!Maybe I'll go put beans on now!!

Zoo... congratulations on such great gifts and sentiments behind them! I love orange.. how cool is that!

I hope you can be a "good girl" and stay off your knee and heal properly. Knees are tricky beasts.. do what you need to and maybe even spend some "down time" perusing foody mags or watching foody shows (or recipe sites online, if you can get the pooter close enough to ya). By the time you can get your new pots 'n pans dirty, you'll have a whole list of new recipes to try out!

Dinner.. Tandoori chicken, basmati with peas, corn and garlic fried in ..and some other stuff.

Zookeeper9000 - Congrats on the NEW PANS! Awesome! That'a a very sweet gesture from your kids. I have no doubt that when you're up and running again that they'll be blessed over and over by their gift!

A good set of pans makes all the difference. We received a set of Farberware pans from my inlaws when we got married, nearly 26 years ago (I swear I don't look old enough to have been married that long!

) and we still use them. They need new handles, but they're still going strong. Other than a few nonsticks and my beloved Le Creuset Dutch oven that was a Christmas gift a number of years ago (LOVE IT!), I still use my old pans.

As for the knee, been there, done that. I had surgery in '92. I was told I'd be up and running in a matter of weeks. It took months. It WILL get better as you rest and then do whatever strengthening exercises are prescribed when your doctor thinks you're ready for that. I agree - read up on lots of good recipes to try when you're feeling better. Or, maybe you can put those kids to work. You can probably slice and dice and direct them to how to cook. Could be a good thing!

I figured that if anyone knew about Tommy Burgers, it'd be you, cknmom!

They are so messy and yummy and unless you've had one, it's hard to understand how good they are by the explanation alone. Between Tommy's and In & Out Burgers, we have some pretty tasty burgers here in So. Cal!

I'm not yet sure what the plan is for dinner. We have quite a few errands to do before church tonight. We're going to be up in the mountains for a few days next week so we have some prep work for that to accomplish today.

Thanks all for the well wishes. I was doing fine on the knee till they added those exercises and then the inside stitches broke but that wasn't a problem, the fact that I couldn't stop the bleeding was the problem LOL. But got that under control now and am just laying back as much as possible. If I didn't need the rest room it would be all good LOL.

My girls are 27, 24, and 21 and all of them are really good cooks, LOL. I know this because the hubby and the SO and the ex SO all have told me so repeatedly LOL. Now if only my son would become interested in learning how to cook it would be all great. He picks me up cook books so I have hope for him yet LOL.

Dinner is wheat thins and philly cheese with a pain pill and diet pepsi. Then it is the cooking chanel or animal planet for me LOL.

There's a NCIS marathon on USA channel...lol
How in the world do I turn leftovers into something like turkey tetrazini? lol

Zoo, please stay off that knee, and focus your energies on you keyboard, I enjoy your posts so much! Enjoy your new pans LATER!

I am very happy about this thread, I love to cook and sometimes get carried away with my "experiments". It's just the DH and me, so we just try it and say do this again or don't do this again.

He's out of town right now, so lunch was TWO pieces of pumpkin pie with Redi-Whip on top. Dinner? No thank you, I have to atone for my sins at lunch!

I already know about tomorrow- beef stir-fry. I'll make a lot and live on it until he's back. 3-4 days.

Have you tried the vegetable wheat thins? Pretty good, and you can claim you're eating veggies!
