Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

We just got back from visiting our son and his family and are eating hot pork sandwiches - I'm getting my bread with gravy on it - some pork too.

Pulled out a bacon swiss shroom meatloaf, was going to do mashed taters and corn. I'd cooked bacon for breakfast and had some left, was going to do bacon ranch mashed taters. Decided to use the bacon grease instead of butter--that's the only thing I can think of for how they turned out. First, they kept climbing the beaters (ok, whipped taters for you purists), then the texture was all wonky and the flavor was nasty. I'm usually a fan of bacon grease and sure thought I'd used it in mashed taters before, but maybe not. Anyone else with a similar experience? I wound up throwing a pan of tater tots in the oven for dinner.

But, apparently forgot to tell the family the mashed taters weren't good--they were sitting on the counter to go out to the chickens. My honey and son come in with plates of meatloaf, mashed taters, tater tots and corn, I just about cried as they put their corn on the mashed taters. Had to clean plates, cook up more corn......not a good night. I can't imagine why they thought I'd made two potato dishes? Thought they were just lucky I guess.

Anything that doesn't crawl off of the plate is fair game for my menfolk! -cast iron stomachs.

-already started on this evenings festive fare. -hashbrown casserole, green bean casserole, cauliflower and cheese bake, red hot apples, ham, hen, dressing, several varieties of bread, fudge, divinity, pecan pie, and candy cane punch!

Oh, old enough to know better, that's for sure! My husband did say he wondered what was going on, but he didn't ask. Anyway....

How far is it from southern Oregon to northern Texas? I can go a long time without a potty break---could I be there in time for dinner? That sounds so good!

Our family tradition is nachos on Christmas Eve. Not sure what'll be for dessert.

Merry Christmas to all!

Our family tradition - Chinese food on Christmas eve. Goes all the way back to when the Chinese restaurant was the only one open on Christmas eve.

We are going to see a movie this afternoon. If anything is open, we may stop and eat there on the way home. If not, we visited my sister/family last night and came home with some breaded flounder and home made pierogies - that would be just fine. Hope that everyone is enjoying this day with their families.

We wound up eating at fil's house last night, so will do our prime rib tonight, with crash potatoes, cauliflower, maybe some other veggie depending on what's in the crisper.
