Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Aneesa's Muse :

skand.. how is the bird overall.. small, medium.. is the meat "stringy" or similar to chicken.. how game'y is it, if at all... and so on? We had guineas when I lived on our farm in GA ..but we didn't eat them (not sure why.. we ate everything else ..well, minus the cats and dogs

)

I'm wondering if it wouldn't benefit from a good buttermilk soak prior to cooking.. and if it's big enough to dunk in some seasoned flour and fry up. Or... marinate it in some papaya/mango and then rotisserie it. Orrrr.... just smother them in a light gravy with onions, mushrooms and a slight squeeze of lime/lemon.

It's about medium sized, I'd guess... not huge for sure...
It's a lot like chicken. Only all dark meat. It is considered a game bird, and does have a gamey taste. Honestly, I'd say gamier then pheasant, but not by much.
I think when it gets another warm day, I'll make Jim deep fry it like a turkey. lol

Are you all out shopping and too busy to cook?

We had a bit of a household disagreement about what we should have for Christmas Eve dinner. Hubby wanted ham and DS wanted lamb. I didn't really care one way or the other, but Hubby got his way by offering to do all the cooking. Who could turn THAT down?!

So, tonight I'm making the lamb that DS wanted. This way, no one loses and I win (at least by not having to cook one meal this week.

Herb crusted leg of lamb, garlic mashed potatoes, steamed and buttered asparagus. Wine for the adults and milk for the kids.

Draw names for the extended family adults.
Buy only one gift for each extended family kid.
Limit own kids to a few favorites.
Buy very little for hubby and I.
Do most of it on the Net right after Thanksgiving.

Oh. Sorry. I got thrown by this:

Either way, my answer still applies - Keep it simple. Don't try to do too much and be satisfied with little. Put up the decorations that make you happiest. Jim can help get things out for you, then you put up what you want and leave the rest for another year when you have more time. Same thing with cooking. Do only what you can feasibly pull off and try not to stress. We no longer do a big Christmas dinner. I LOVE our Christmas day. It isn't fancy but it's a nice relaxing day with family. It makes the whole holiday season waaaaay more simple and enjoyable to dial down the expectations.

DH took us out to a buffet yesterday, so I got my fill of Indo-Pak foods ..and brought some home, too!

This morning, I made his favorite "meenah mac muffins" with whomp biscuits, sausage, cheese and scrambled eggs. Tonight.. umm... I still have to cook before he gets home! Yikes!! Butter chicken or chicken Broast... not sure... but the rice is done and the veggie is easy enough.

I'm a slacker.. and it's COLD here!!

We are so snowed in...stuck in the house like corks in a bottle. I had to walk to the local store where the price of a loaf of bread is 4 dollars...a box of cereal is 5!! ugh!! I didn't buy much but I was craving pasta...so I bought some and a few other ingredients to make a cheese and sour cream sauce that I mixed in the pasta with pork chops that I sliced thin and fried with onions and some taco seasoning...sounds weird, but I mixed it all together, topped it with cheese and baked it. It was very good. I also pan fried some corn and mixed it all in. It was just one of those dinners where you can't make up your mind what is all going in the pan, but what comes out is pretty darn good.

Lord I'm tired of snow already.

I just wanted to take a moment to wish all of you and yours a wonderful holiday season (and not to offend), but a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

And now the madness begins......!
