Hey Grandpa, What's For Supper?

It could be, Tutter ..I really don't know. He said it's commonly used in place of msg ...when your favorite Chinese restaurant claims they don't use msg in their foods, they may be using this alternative and people are unaware... which is dangerous for someone that is deathly adverse to msg or the likes of it.

I stopped eating preservative ridden foods a long time ago ...makes it difficult to find edible food sometimes, but it sooo has a huge effect on the amount of migraines I get.

DH went to get pizza from a friend's pizza spot ..and I'm still making hot wings and garlic fries to go with

....and.. I have a baby hatching as I type!!!!!!!!!!
It's my first!

Yes, it can be a pain to eat sometimes, because you can't just buy any old thing which may look good, but really, and I've been preservative-free since the early 90's, the health trade-off is very much worth it, as you said.

I'm so glad that you made the connection to your migraines, and were able to cut them out!

Hmmmm, I'm not really sure, but if you find out again, will you let me know?

That sounds like a good dinner for a "blah" food mood!

I will let you know ..may have to put on my trusty Super Google cap cuz I haven't found anything just yet!

I have one little Salmon Faverolle in my shirt *ahem* right now ...she was drying up in the shell and couldn't kick her way out. I left her to her business until about 5am and had to intervene. She seems fine ..and boy does she have a set of lungs!

Once she's dry, I'll put her in the brooder.

I do believe today's dinner will be ""something in the CrockPot" ..so I can watch my incubator all day!

When I was growing up my parents had a time share house in the Bahamas and we went there a few times. Groceries were limited; my Dad used to make bread and let it rise in the car with the windows closed. Worked great!

You probably won't read this 'til you get back, but I am so glad to hear that your Dad is stable! Will be sending up the prayers still. You hang in there, cknmom!

I'm feeling like Lasagna and fresh bread, with a big salad ..or some kind of Biryani or Vindaloo ..Ghobi... fresh Naan ..possibly a salad?

The thought of vindaloo makes my mouth water! I love Indian food but hate to cook it too often. The smell of the toasted spices and ghee tends to linger in my house longer than than I like. lol

Tonight was minestrone and fresh Italian bread since we're beginning to eat from the garden. Yea!

Defrosting chicken breasts for tomorrow since the family fears a "vegetarian summer".

Sunday Dinner is:

Deviled Eggs
V-8

Cantaloupe and Honeydew balls in 1/2 Cantaloupe Shells

Roasted Whole Chicken
Potatoes au Gratin
Baby Beets and Baby Round Carrots in Butter
Leftover Coleslaw

Chocolate Pudding

I'm making the chicken my favorite way, which is to cut pieces from rosemary, and put them under the skin.

I spent the ENTIRE day cleaning, blanching, and freezing yesterday's farmers market haul:

We are just having CORN for dinner! And maybe some canteloupe. And I dare anyone to complain.

Actually, I think Alex is so hot and tired from spending all day working on the Turkey Cathedral (seriously--whatever he is building is so far beyond what I envisioned, I don't even know what's going on there) that he won't have much of an appetite.

Well, we had a mixture tonite. I didn't really want to cook since we hosted a family reunion this weekend at our place and I was full as tick all weekend. Chicken n Dumplins and cornbread dressing and peas and butterbeans and fried chicken, tater salad and green salad, creamed corn and corn casseroles, Pone Cornbread, did I mention those Dumplins were Mmm Mmmm Good. We had watermelon, Nanner Puddin/ heavy on the cookies, Peanut butter pie, Pecan pie, Chocolate pie, Lemon Pie and Lemon Cake. A couple of casseroles and Grilled Hamburgers and baked beans and Chips. Wheweeeee
I had to have company yesterday to help eat all the left overs.
So tonite in the middle of cooking some fig Preserves and putting Okra in the freezer, I just Fried some Okra, sliced some tomatoes, cooked a little fresh cream corn, and some broccoli cheese n rice.
I am about done with the best fig Preserves you ever tasted. Cooked whole and just about candied. Now tomorrow we may have some Homemade buttermilk bisquits to go with them.

OMG, Ms. Julie, here I was just before dark tonight out there in the pea patch picking a bushel of purple hull peas and thinking to myself how you might appreciate those peas. And while I'm out there doing that you are on here posting about all that wonderful comfort food you were having. It makes me ashamed I even thought that you might appreciate something like purple hull peas with all them fine groceries you had to eat.

Chicken and dumplings, nanner pudden and such. That's a heap better than this ole sow belly and purple hull peas even with a pone of cornbread.
