Oh yeah, things are much calmer now. Your supper sure souds good. I don't have a good reason, but I haven't done steak since I don't know when. Gotta make myself a note.

I made fried catfish po-boys for supper
Fries
Fried mushrooms
Coleslaw
Lots of cold sweetmilk

Look out arteries, here it comes!

That's funny, I haven't had catfish in ages either.

We are going to a dairy tomorrow to get raw milk. I hear it is much better for you to drink, and we are on one of those eat natural and do the organic thing kicks. I talked to the kids about it today and they are on board. Got some organic meat, raising 54 birds for meat for this year and going to try raw milk and make some cheese. I am taking notes from Miss Prissy---she was the one that "made" me get that Nourishing Traditions book.

Oh how I wish for whole milk again. DW and I were talking this morning about trying to find the nearest dairy and a slaughter house for some good meat. I seriously considered getting a jersy milk cow and also a feeder calf . I used to do it that way. I so much enjoyed and now miss the old ways.

Don't let us hold you back!!

That would be terrific.

I am hoping that when my DH gets his new assignment that we are in a position to get some acreage and buy a Jersey. I have just finished reading The Family Cow. Boy is that a well researched and written book. It is going to be quite the reference book for me when the time comes...hopefully sooner than later. Surely there is someone near you who could get you some milk. You might also try a cowshare if there are laws against selling unpasteurized milk in Louisiana.

Got to get my rascals off to bed...

Finally I got to cook. I don't cook during the week because there is no one to feed but me.
I usually just cook on the weekends when DH gets home.
Tonight was

Turnip Greens
Potato Salad
Fried Pork Chops (with slap ya mamma)
and corn bread.

2dream,
Now that is some real comfort food. I was beginning to think that I was the only one on this forum that ate that kind of food. If you would have had some of my purple hull or Mississippi Silver Skin crowder peas to go with that, LOOK OUT!

So nice to know that I now have at least three or four places to run away to and pull up a chair for supper....Miss Prissy's, 2Dream's and Yogi's.....I can smell the catfish sammich from here...that will go so nicely on Miss Prissy's bread and 2Dreams potato salad ...big ole glass of sweet tea, a rockin chair on the porch with a sweet summer breeze and good company to share with....now that's livin....I'll be right over...might have to move that setter outta that wicker chaise at redfeathers too, that porch looks pretty inviting too!!

2dream,
Mississippi Sliver Skin Crowder Peas have only been around for at least a hundred years. They are a crowder pea and when you cook them they make a delicious brown pot licker. I grow them and boy do I eat them. I actually prefer them and brown crowders better than purple hulls.
