Hey Grandpa, What's For Supper?

I haven't been cooking either we've been eating out alot. We had a houseguest and just been to busy to cook.
Tonight I'm heating up a homemade chicken pot pie which says I froze on july 11. Smell yummy. It has all the veggies and potatoes in it already so I don't have to do anything else.

Aneesa I love lamb but DH hates it. I'm so jealous of your yummy lamb dinners

My DH only likes the lamb one way, really ...Mongolian style.. but if he wants to eat..

I haven't made a pot pie in a long time ...one of those other things that DH doesn't care for, but I do. I may have to make one and treat it the same as I do the lamb... "if you wanna eat.. "

Oh ...and all these lamb dinners are his fault anyways ...I sent him for ONE pound of lamb ..he returned with 3 plus!!

Its been so hot and our son has been gone most of the summer, so we have just been having salads and simple things! Tonight though we are having teriyaki sishkabobs with potatoes and onions from our garden.

I love pot pies. I use my Mom's crust recipe (with a few changes of my own). Yummy. Funny though because my hubby isn't crazy about them either. If he doesn't like what I make he'll have a sandwich or something. Fine by me, except I end up eating too much of whatever I make. Doesn't happen very often though.

The chinese was quite tasty. I'm stuffed...and beyond. I made steak with veggies and didn't even get to the chicken. I think I may have to turn the chicken I boiled into a pot pie later this week.

Awww I un-made tuna. Does that count even though it wasn't cooked? We ate it on the boat after steaking it at the dock. It was on ice before we steaked it so it was just as cold as a walk-in cooler. Along with sunburn, it was very nice besides the flying rats taking off with the entrails before you get them out of the carcass. Bah! Good time though.

Not all of us have completely stopped cooking but it would be easy to do in all this heat. I made a chicken (hen), sausage, okra gumbo. Just had to let it sit for a day or two in the fridge to get ripe enough to eat. Cooked a pot of rice and made a potato salad. Feeling real comfortable now.

Aneesa's Muse :

ninjapoodles.. is your Ricotta recipe online somewhere? I'd love to have it!

Oh.. and you could use some of it in a PattyPan au'gratin type dish ..or veggie lasagna ...stuffed shells ...in a fancy cobbler with whatever fresh fruits you have available (it would be a little "wetter" than the one I make with cream cheese, but similar). I love good Ricotta!

I think I'm going to go ahead and make the Pepper Sauce Lamb for us tonight ..and just leave out the asian twist on the original recipe. I picked up some fresh red potatoes and I have several colors of 'sweet' peppers ...some green beans ...some Crimini mushrooms. A yummy and colorful supper!

That actually does sound good. I mean, ricotta makes a mean cannoli, so why not? I kind of cheated on my ricotta. I couldn't get it to yield much when starting with the whey leftover from the mozz, so I kind of did a "split batch" of ricotta and mozz. I scooped out some to make ricotta, then finished out the mozz. So, basically, my "ricotta" is actually unfinished mozzarella.

According to the Fias Co Farms recipe, you can make ricotta by simply reheating your whey from the mozzarella to 180 degrees, then straining it through butter muslin. I'm not sure I have that kind of patience.

OH! One experiment I've been having fun with is this recipe for an authentic, rustic French boule that requires NO work, no kneading, and you plop it into a pre-heated dutch oven with a lid, and bake it at 450-500F. It turns out AMAZING.

Thank you, ninjapoodles!

I'm gonna have to get on my cheese making duties!

And for tonight's dinner ...I am clueless! We finally finished off all the Lamb
