Hold it! Wait a dern minute. Time out here! CountryBoy, what planet are you on? lol Admittedly, I didn't know what purple hull pea jelly was, but then that ain't something you find in the grocery. But chow chow? That's common as dirt.
Okay, relish then? That's city talk for chow chow.

Okay, you're forgiven this time. But I'm still trying to understand how you got the screen name country boy. lol I don't suppose you'd know what cow salve butter is either? And that's not a trick question.

I just finished the best dinner. Pan fried and breaded Pork Chops (local).Homegrown frozen beans.Homemade english muffin bread.
Our fresh eggs, hard boiled, dipped in soy sauce.
A gret dinner night.

No, just funnin with ya'. Don't mean no harm. I don't ever remember having this much fun with my overalls on. Gotta shut down for the nite though. Past my bed tme. Have a good one, countryboy. Talk at you tomorrow. Nite, nite all.

Countryboy, chow chow IS like relish but some of it is not sweet, in fact I like the soicy, hotter one much better but my husband likes the sweet one. Chowchow is a must for lima beans and black-eyed peas, field peas and alot of other slow cooked peas and beans. Some people put chowchow on their meats, I guess I could do that witha slow cooked roast, never have though. You can find it ni any farmers market or near the pickles in the grocery store. If you eat peas and beans, you need to find you some chowchow, it's a whole 'nother eatin experience, lol!!

Yogi, I'm from Amish country in PA. Currently a Yankee in Taxachusetts. Us Dutchy folks, we make jelly out of everything.

And I know my chowchow. "Relish" doesn't quite describe it. Think of it this way--you have about one of everything left in the garden, but you don't have enough to make a whole dish out of any of it, so you cut it up and add vinegar, sugar, and pickling spice to taste. If you've got a couple of hot peppers, guess the chowchow is gonna be hot. If you've only got sweet peppers, guess it'll be sweet then. It's whatever you've got leftover, pickled in jars.

I really hate sweet pickles, so I'm not a fan.

Hey Rosalind,
I have often told DW that I missed my calling by not being Amish. I could so easily live the life style they live. I so much enjoy reading about them.
Chow chow vs. relish for me is a terminology thing. I use a sweet jalapeno relish as a topping on my food. Some kind of good! I have for many years made it but I still am not totally satisfied with it.

Hey 2dream,
Yep, we need more cooks on this chicken channel. I'm thinking of starting a thread devoted to recipes "only". That ought to be super. Just think about the exchange of cultures we could have here. Talk about a cookbook!
Did you go get that flour today? I thought about you this morning when I was eating one of my leftover biscuits for breakfast.

Yogi, they did not have any. They had another brand. When I ask them they said that yes they
did get it but not in this past shipment. They apparently alternate brands or something. I was so disappointed.

Now for supper - since I am home alone as usual on a Monday night and can't practice my biscuits
I figure left over CRAWFISH - All mine - DH did not take any of them with him. I am gonna eat til I pop.
