Yogi- Not sure if I can 'learn' ya or not...cause all I know is...I get a better "rise" when I add a little more baking powder. And my recipes always call for it..& self-rising flour...(I have not added it before, and the biscuits were not as tall)
Maybe that is the only reason why...not really sure. I do know that self-rising has it in there....but always a little more makes mine better.
Currently making homemade cinnamon rolls...got another hour to go...(the dough is in the fridge)
This is a yeast dough.

Hope that helps.

And your right on soups, chili's, and things of that nature...always adding....

Meatloaf for supper tommorrow! (I put bell peppers in mine...along with lots of other stuff)
For a different taste....top your meatloaf with a can of cream of mushroom and cook it! Took it too our last dinner on the ground (course it was in the fellowship hall, we just call it that) and none left. (Hope that was a good sign)

Oh yes, wanted to add: I was introduced to "Slap ya mamma" spice when I moved down here....a church member had us over for grilled hamburgers....HOT! HOT! HOT!
Can't even use a little...made my eyes tear up! Nose dripping....ouch!
They loved it though...course he sits around with a jar of jalepeno peppers instead of chips or popcorn!!! OOOWWEEEE!

(Not mad, just HOT!)

Aaaaaaw, remembering the good ole days: All day sanging (not singing) and dinner on the ground. Wow, what memories.
And then there were the all day dinners and sanging on the ground.
I can still taste those homemade chicken and dumplings, cornbread dressing, nanner (not banana) pudding, sweet tater pie, OMG, gotta quit thinking about it.

Seminole...I make fritters from my cornbread recipe. (Just make it a little thinner, not much)

Yogi- here's a photo of the flour I like, especially for my breads.

Parsons- your rolls look incredible!! I am having a hard time adjusting to our new altitude and temp. where bread is concerned

I bake all of our bakery needs.

What is this slapyomama spice?? I am the only one in the house that would eat/use it, but I would use it daily!!

Monica

I cook 2 cups of basmati rice. THIS IS THE PRECOOKED MEASURE.

I steam a casserole dish of fresh brocolli.

I then chop the brocolli and mix it with the hot rice.

You can use canned cream of chicken or mushroom soup or a combination of the two. Or make your own and mix in about a normal sized soup can amount.

I grate a cup of cheddar and mix it in while the mix is still steaming hot so it starts to melt.

Taste it for salt and pepper.

Put in a buttered casserole dish.

Top with more shredded cheese.

Bake at 375 until bubbly and the top is golden.

This is so versatile to make. You can add chunks of chopped chicken, water chestnuts, mixed veggies, etc. and make a hearty meal served with a salad and bread.

We love the leftovers from this large casserole.

Monica, "Slap ya Mamma" is a 'spicy' spice! Very hot, for me.
I had never heard of it till we moved close to Louisiana...so I believe it is a type of 'creole' spice. Yogi will have better info on that. I purchased it at the Piggly Wiggly here, I believe our other grocery store, 'The Mad Butcher' has it too.....
These are two stores I had never shopped at till moving here either.
And I was born and raised in Ar....lived in PA, NC, MO, and spent a lot of time in OK...course I was younger & maybe I just didn't pay close attention....but my family hadn't heard of it either.
It is not for those that suffer with heartburn...."I personally think the title comes from slap somebody cause you are in so much pain..not cause it's so good!" I'm sure if you like hot stuff, it's good, but I can't taste flavor when things get to hot....

I just hunt for milk! And this is one hot spice!
I do have several folks in our church that adore it....(they introduced me to it!)
If you like hot...then this is perfect! ......whew...makes my eyes water just thinking about it..... enjoy.
