Don't ya' just love those big ole juicy burgers that you have to put on a slicker suit, rubber boots and gloves to eat?

We had Sonic for the first time yesterday!! They just put the first one in around here, and it's still 30 some lies away.

They do have good burgers, I liked the tots with chili and cheese, the kids thought it was neat that they brought the food to the car.

My five year old said, Momma, what are those girls DOING??

I don't think we have Sonic burgers out this way. Are they pretty good?

We have a similar place here...I think they are around certain parts of the country. Do you all have a Carls Jr? The guacamole burger is HUGE and soooo messy. Certainly not "first date" food. It's something to be eaten in private or with someone that doesn't care if you look like a hog in slop by the time you get done eating it.

For dinner tonight it was our standard once a week spaghetti. My neighbor brought over the most decadent cranberry-orange and white chocolate scone for dessert. It's the size of a dinner plate and one of the best I have ever had. Wish I could give you all a bite, it's just awesome.

Merd, have Lawcy! BBQ ribs, cole slaw, potato salad, stuffed eggs, fried dill pickles, garlic bread, raw cucumbers and broccoli with ranch dressing, sweet tea, more pound cake, and ICE CREAM! Burp! Excuse me....

Missed you guys! I've been up in Nor. Cal. visiting friends but just had to check in to see what you all ate while I was gone.

Lesseee. . . .
Thursday - Ate a Carl's Jr. burger on the way up to Nor. Cal.
Friday - Went to the Jelly Belly factory, then to BJ's for pizza and beer.
Saturday - Went wine tasting then back to our friends' house for pot roast with potatoes and carrots.
Sunday - Ham, potatoes, spinach salad, jello salad, rolls, and dessert - none of which I had to cook.

Today - Had a Carl's Jr chicken sandwich on the way home and will probably just have cereal if I get hungry later.

Tonight we had chicken and rice casserole made with cream of mushroom soup, chicken and wild rice soup, celery seed, Tony Chachere's and Greek seasonings. Sides were baby carrots glazed in butter, sugar, vanilla, and nutmeg and a can (I cheated!) of Old Glory Seasoned green beans. Lipton Green Tea with Citrus was the beverage of choice tonight. We took a break from dessert.

Mustard Greens are much like turnip greens without the turnip roots and milder. I like them mixed.

I've never had mustard greens in my life. What do they taste like? Or should I assume they are mustardy?

Well, there in lies the problem.

Your life will never be complete without having eaten some mustard greens.

You just gotta do something about that real soon before it's to late.

Wow! What do they taste like? I am at a loss to describle the taste except to say that they are some kind of gooooood. Airmom described them as being much like turnip greens but milder. That would be a good description. But then if you've never had turnip greens either them that doesn't help much, does it.

I raise them every fall, then pick them while they are young and tender. I process them, cook them, and then bag them for the freezer. And I mean lots of them. I put well over 100 quart bags of them in the freezer in the winter. I spend every weekend picking and processing them.

We obviously like them very much. They are a staple part of our diet. I never grow tired of them. My cardiologist likes for me to eat them. He says I have the chlestrol level of a teenager. I raise and we eat all types of greens, i.e. mustard, turnip, collards, kale, rape and cabbage. This is in addition to all of the typical garden vegetables I raise. Some mighty fine eaten!

Sounds yummy! Our church has a garden project going right now (been posting about it over at The Easy Garden) and greens could be a fun addition. I love greens! How do you process and store them?

Not sure what I'm doing for dinner tonight. I'm so tired after my weekend road trip that I'm feeling very unmotivated.

Backyard Buddies asked:
How do you process and store them?

I pick them when the leaves are about hand size. We like them young and tender. I thoroughly wash them through at least 3 washings. My greens do not have sand and or dirt on them.
I then cook down a box of bacon ends and pieces then remove the excess bacon grease. I cut the mustard and add to the bacon along with some water. I continue adding until the 22 qt. pot is full. I then cook them until they are tender and done which really doesn't take that long. After cooling for an extended period, I then bag them in 1 qt. Ziplock bags and freeze them. Then when I am ready for them I simply remove them from the bag while still frozen and heat them until hot.
I often process 2 to 4 of the 22 qt. pots in a weekend, depending on the weather and how much energy I have left after picking. It's a ton of work, believe me, but the reward for it is greaaaaaaaaaaaaaat! Love them greens.
