Thanks, Yogi, will have to try that. At this point, willing to try anything. However, anything to do with flour, and I have the place (and myself) covered. Just seems to fly everywhere!

Tonight was simple (rough day, will explain later):

Ham sammiches with the trimmings
French fries
Milk

Hi Amy- my mother has a tupperware dough mat...she loves it...so do I. My husband bought me something similar from walmarts...not near as big, and certainly not as pliable...but it works. Yes, you do have to wash it...but when I'm rolling breads it doesn't tear like wax or freezer paper. Hope that helps some.

 

[Backyard Buddies]

I put spaghetti sauce into the crockpot this morning knowing that I had a busy day ahead of me. My son had an orthodontic appointment at the time I'd usually be home putting dinner on the table so I figured the head start was needed.

Good thing! I drove to pick up my daughter from school and came out to a flat tire

These tires are just 2 months old! I still had to pick up my son from different school and drive to another city for the ortho appt. Thank God for AAA! These guys got my spare on there and got me on the road.

I made it on time, but my planned trip to pick up some milk and French bread at the store was blown to pieces. I had to go to the fancy dancy store next to the Ortho's. Some lettuce, a gallon of milk, and a baguette cost me nearly $12! Sheesh.

Anyway, long story to say that we had spaghetti, salad, and French bread for dinner tonight.

A friend of ours came back from the coast with fish, from his fishing trip. So we had lemon fish, broccoli-rice, and corn on the cob...because I still had some ears from Sunday.

Yogi, is the squash from your garden? Ours isn't producing yet.

Backyard Buddies, I'm sorry that you had that kind of day. I hope that your tire can be replaced, since it was new.

The upside is that you had a nice dinner anyway, thanks to good planning.

Parsonswife: I think I know what you are talking about...it's like a clear deal with all sorts of measurements or something written on it? Seems like I remember seeing something like that around somewhere.

Hmm...will have to check out housewares next time I'm in Wal-Mart.

Yes, indeed they are and they are wonderful. Nothing like the taste of fresh veggies. Takes some getting used to at first since they don't have that canned or frozen taste.

This thread got me to thinking this morning of what I would like to have this evening for dinner...It's cool, cloudy and suppose to be another rainy day

So I have decided on chicken & dumplings, roasted red potatoes and canned yellow waxed beans from my last years garden

Yogi, you've got that right! I love growing yellow crook necks, and patty pans, especially, for summer squash. When the kids were small, they used to run down and get a flower each (They were abundant.) and want it fried with their breakfast on weekends. Gotta' love homegrown vegetables!

Lizardz, my son is grown now, and wouldn't eat a storebought egg if you paid him; even if the chickens were treated well and given cookies and milk before bed. He was very small when we moved here, and can't remember any time before us having our own hens for eggs. Actually, aside from other terms, I think he calls other eggs "anemic!" (Too pale of yolks, too runny of whites etc.)

Kids, they're so truthful.

Tuffoldhen, I'm sorry your weather's not been good, but what an excuse to have a delicious dinner!

I used to love to make wax beans into 3 bean salad!

My squash are itty-bitty right now...course I was late getting them in the ground this year. Tomatoes aren't doing much, either. Time for some Sevin dust, too, there were some "critters" on them yesterday.
