Hey Grandpa, What's For Supper?

I have a roast cooking in the crock pot that is so tender, so I decided to shred it and add bbq sauce for pulled beef sandwiches. We'll have pasta and tomato salad with it and maybe some french fries on the side.

Geez, I would MUCH rather come to your house to eat than cook tonight myself!

And aren't those roasted veggies pretty? Would you believe that's the first time I ever cooked beets?

Well, I spent the morning cooking up all kinds of foods and breads while waiting for Hurricane Gustav to get here. He is now making his entrance here but I'm not a good hoast so I'm not inviting him in for supper. He's already caused me to much work and trouble.

I fired up the grill like I always do during most of the year....tonite it's grilled brats with grilled corn on the cob and baked potatoes....should I mention the cold brews that make cooking supper fun?

Tonight is slow simmered chicken veggie soup (using the carcass from yesterday's BBQ chicken) with dumplings. I think I will make some sort of salad or biscuits as well, and we will have leftover brownies if the kids havent polished them off by desert time

Tell me about it! We have WAY too many squirrels and bunnies here. The bunnies are down in our bog and you can follow their trails all over the place in there. The kids call it our "enchanted forest", but I call it the reason why I am not raising meat rabbits yet

. The squirrels are driving me crazy and I am a firm believer in eating what I harvest, so fried rat with fluffy tails here I come!!

It was DS's first day back at school and per our tradition, he got to select the dinner for the evening. He has chosen to have Chinese chicken salad and fresh made rolls. Brownies for dessert.

Tomorrow is DD's first day back at school. No spoilers. . . . You'll have to wait until tomorrow to hear about that!

Not even a hint Backyard Buddies? Tonight's choice sound so darn good, I can't wait to hear what your DD picks!

My young adult "kids" still look forward to choosing their special birthday dinner. Boy have we had some strange birthday meals, the best one being chocolate pudding instead of birthday cake. Really made it tricky with the candles!

That's hilarious, Happyhen! Just how do you get candles to stay up in chocolate pudding?

I love little traditions and the kids get a kick out of them as well. We typically have Breakfast for Dinner on Wednesday evenings and they almost never let me out of that one. With tomorrow being Wednesday, you'll just have to chew on that one for a while and see if that's a hint or a distraction!
