Hey Grandpa, What's For Supper?

65 degrees for a high today and raining, so it was classic French tonight. A cassoulet (sausage, pork and chicken) with a fresh baked loaf of country French bread and a tossed green salad dressed with a lemon citronette. A peach clafouti with whipped cream for dessert.

It was nice to have the oven on to take the damp chill from the house. We're 10-20 degrees cooler than average for this time of year. I hope this doesn't mean a nasty fall and winter!

Wow, Happyhen those temps sound great to me. It was hot and humid and the folks from the STate came to do the NPIP testing and I was sweating something awful and was quite dirty after getting in mud pens to get the birds for the lady that came and hold and assist.
I went in and made me some Spagetti finally and we ate the leftovers tonite. Three grandkids came out to stay for a few hours so we made oatmeal cookies together. Cookies are always good with the Grands hot out of the oven and some milk or tea to drink

Yummy! Did you save me any of the leftovers?

I've made cassoulet before and know it can be quite time consuming. Did you use any shortcuts? If not, how long did it take you to make it from start to finish? Ahhh, but what a great dish to enjoy on a cool evening!

Tonight we're going out for pizza to a place at the beach with friends from our college days. What a nice end to the summer to have an opportunity to hang out with good friends while watching the sun set over the ocean!

Last nights leftovers tonight.

To answer Backyard Buddies' question....it took about 5 hrs to make yesterday's dinner menu, about 4 for the cassoulet alone. I've seen recipes that shortcut the process but I'm too afraid to try them. Maybe next time.

Wow! Special occasion or simply for fun? Every once in a while I'll decide to make something that takes a special effort. It's fun to me.

We ate out both last night and tonight. It looks like there are other events taking place over the rest of the weekend and I'm not yet sure when I'll be cooking again.

All my best to our fellow posters who live in the path of Gustav. I hope you're all in a safe place!

I feel like I have been cooking all day Started baking chicken breast early this morning so make dumplings and Poppy seed chicken casserole for tomorrow. Made some homemade yeast rolls. Cooked a pot collards and ham. DH made nanner puddin a huge bowl.... I will get up and cook some peas in the morning before we leave for church. It will be a good day. I am not taking the collards though. I am saving those for my oldest son who didn't get any of the last ones. He heard about them from his middle brother so Monday I will fix him some sweet taters to go with them and some cornbread

I may actually cook, today ...if'n I don't get caught up with the Pepper sauce and the Chow chow

The little heatwave we had was kickin' my butt for migraine "sudden onset", so we've been eating out a LOT, it seems. Last night was a "new to us" Italian spot ..with a good friend. The Spinaci Calzone was pretty good ...and very BIG! (more than half came home with me)

I am sending prayers for all those near Gustav! I have friends that just found out it's going to pass them up (just some wind and rain stuff) ..but it still looks strong enough to hit TX pretty hard. Be safe, folks!

We went out with friends last night so,..... It was deep fried every thing! Cheese sticks, dill pickles, mushrooms and onion rings. It is rainy and cold today in Montana so I put a beef rib roast in the slow cooker. We will have homemade mashed potatoes made from our garden potatoes and gravy. Green beans and fresh bread.
