Hey, new here, have a question

I'll need to post an intro in another forum, I'm sure, but I have a serious question that needs attention asap. We are new to raising chickens. One of our chickens had a runny nose a few weeks ago. It died about 2 weeks later. Now, we have some more with runny noses. We need to know what to do. TIA!!!

Antibiotics for one thing, and fast! Tylan or Terramycin powder in water. What conditions are the birds kept in and where did you aquire your birds? Those are things that would help us to help you

Terramycin should be enough for most respritory problems. I'm afraid of using tylan (personally) due to the need of injecting it. I can inject a diabetic, but not a chicken- what gives?

The birds are kept in a fenced in area. The area is in good condition.

You just can't eat the eggs for two weeks or so after treatment is done.

I would try Tylan 50 injected or Sulmet in the water. Sulmet treats Coryza, Tylan treats different respiratory illnesses. If you have any more birds die definitely get them a necropsy ASAP! I have been through several months of runny noses, tumors, and deaths and the necropsy solved everything for us.

You don't by any chance live in the Kentucky area do you?

Yes, actually we live in southeastern Kentucky. Is that important concerning the illness??

Where did you buy your birds from? I live in Lex and I got some birds from a guy in the Richmond/Berea area that ended up being infected with infectious coryza and avian leukosis. He lies and says they are healthy, but they weren't. My entire flock was infected as a result. I had a necropsy done on one bird to find out the exact illnesses. This guy goes to chicken shows in eastern KY (maybe other places too?) and spreads his diseases. Mine had similar symptoms to what you describe, so I thought I'd ask where you're located just to be sure you didn't buy from him! You can take one of your sick or dead birds to the diagnostic lab in lexington (part of UK) to get a necropsy done for $10.

Just to ad, I found out he also goes to the London stock yards if you got your birds from there. He's an obese guy named David...

We bought ours from Flea World in London. But, the guy wasn't obese.

We bought the Tylan 50. Where do we inject it?
