Here is my baby 'Bean' She/He is is 1/2 weeks old and I have 15 more developing in the incubator! Lynne, can I say... she is the best chicken that we have ever had! I have never seen a chicken with better all around spunk and personality. Her type seems to be coming along nicely... she has the MOST amazing foot feathers! What a gem!

This is not the best picture for color... but the golden is really coming out now. Before, Bean looked just like a golden laced but is starting to get more color. There aren't any white spots yet but there are whitish stripes coming out across both wings. I know it's waaaaaay too soon.

I have a question... well, a few.

When breeding these back... what would be a good color to pair them with to improve type? To mottled or buff columbian? I am hoping (like everyone I'm sure) to get these Millie's on their way to having the shape (the serious 'junk-in-the-trunk' look) that some people have so perfectly achieved.

I am a little way off from knowing where I want to take these (breeding wise) little guys but am excited about the planning and getting to know some breeders~

How are everyone elses coming along? Anyone have any updates? Danny I would love to see more of your birds! How are those porcelin~ish ones coming along? Josh, I am so excited to see more of yours as well... I would like to get some spalsh silkie eggs from you sometime soon. Cruzin... got any new pics?? Doc, what colors would you bring in to improve type?????? Msbear... how are you felling???

Anyone have any current pictures of your little darlings that looked like this at a few weeks? I am curious to see what Bean will look like. I hope all 15 of the next batch are those creamy mille's. I know it's not the color everyones going for but maybe I will... I think it's just beautiful.

Eshanne,

How adorable

IMO I think you should start referring to your baby as Mr. Bean!

Are they not the most loveable babies?

And I know what you mean about foot feathers. I am constantly treading on one of my girls feet because the feathers are so abundant.

Others may not agree, but I would not breed back to another color. If type & color are good, then I would pick out the best hens and breed back to another MFC roo. Perhaps you can trade with another on this thread that have been breeding a different line. Maybe Doc, Mike, Danny or Josh would be interested in a trade.

I have another hatch due on Friday. I "must"

get some pics of the last 3 hatches of F3's. They are soooooo cute.

Congrats again & fingers crossed

for a good hatch.

Those are some of the cutest pics I've ever seen!

I was just out playing with mine a little while ago. They are almost a month old, and are getting so cute. And, they really are sweeties-such personality! I'll try to get pics when I go back out in a while.

I've got 3 more from Lynne in the hatcher as we speak--fingers still crossed for those. I'd love a couple more to add to my Millies.

Paula,

When is their due date??? They will be tiny but mine have been so active. I so hope all goes well.

I finally took some pics of my babies from Lynne, as well as the baby from my own birds that I'm most pleased with right now. I'll try to get em posted tonight!

Happy Chicken Mama, thanks for asking how I was feeling. To answer you... OLd and FaT

I can hardly get out of bed. My son just wipes me out. And this baby is sitting high and puts pressure on my lungs. When I do ANYTHING, it feels like I just ran a mile. Sad thing is running a mile would probably kill me

And Im trying to eat healthy... but cheeseburgers are my craving du jour

Ok ok enough about me... My little darkie is my fave. I know it's not the color we're striving for but his type is fantastic and he's larger than the rest of them... A real ball of health

In the last pic, you can see my best roo. His color is turning out amazing but everyone drops their jaw when they see the darker one. He IS my most beautiful bird.

Lynne, my F3's aren't due til Fri... that's day 21 but I got pipped air cells today!! and some of my rosecombs have pipped. Im keeping a close eye and will help them if they don't make progress by Fri. Im afraid those air cells are just so huge (shaken during transit) that they need me

eta: sorry my pics aren't clear. I have a 12 mega pixel piece of crud. It focusses on anything but what Im aiming at

Lynne, day 21 is tomorrow. I just took a peek, but no pip yet. One of my BM D'Uccles pipped, but that's the only one. I'm on pins and needles. I really want a couple more of these. I'm crazy about this color!

Erin, Oh my goodness-those birds are just Gorgeous!! Love them! I see what you mean about the darker roo-he is beautiful. But the other one's nothing to sneeze at either!

Thanks, Hippichick. Im very proud of them. You can see my little perfect pullet in the background. She has the perfect mille buff and white and is getting more black speckling as she matures.

That's one thing to remember about this variety. My dark cockerel looked just like ChickenMama's when it was that age. Look at all the color he has now. They change continuously... even after the first molt.

Lynne didn't have enough mille eggs so I got two buff columbian x mille fleur pullets. They started out real slow but now Im noticing white coming out in them as well. The pullet you see all the way to the right is one of those. She has great type but is teeny tiny. I just love her and am planning to put her to my redder roo along with the perfect puff.

Im hatching some more right now and a couple of those will go to my darker boy. ...whom I caught today stealing a quick lovin from my mottled roo's hen

Chow Yung Fat (mottled roo) was Po'ed!! and chased him away. I cannot believe he is this young and already going for it... funny.

Yes! I was hoping to order a dozen splash silkies from Josh and then also order a dozen Mille's & hope that my husband doesn't notice the extra dozen.... I can get away with the silkies...! Then I would be able to in six months keep the best types & color... then go from there.

MSBEAR... yes my husband & I are hoping to expect soon and I can't imagine feeling older & fatter than I am already! Now since we haven't conceived (over the last 5 years) we are starting to think that we should consider waiting 5-10 more years... yikes! Talk about older! We raised my four younger brothers so we have no lack for children around the house. My chickens seem to be filling the 'last years of high school and going off to college' thing that is happening here.

Your Rooster looks a lot like I imagine Mr... Bean to be. We were sitting with wine at the end of the day today & were noticing that underneath all of the grey of his chest it is ALL GOLDEN underneath! Oh, it is so exciting! Your 'best' roo is a stunner!

Thanks everyone for the pictures... keep 'em coming!

Took a few pics this afternoon of the 3 babies I hatched from Lynne's eggs. These will be a month old on the 16th. I'm just loving them!
