I've been lurking on this site for a little while. My husband and I decided two or three months ago that we might want chickens so we've been reading here and there. Today we picked up 3 - 1 week old Giant Black Jerseys! (It's kind of fitting since my husband lived in New Jersey for two years and still talks about it!) Anyway, they're so cute! Gotten a lot of great information, and the admin here ain't too bad! ;) (Sorry, Rob - had to! lol)

It's kinda fun listening to the chicks chirping in their box. :) It's like a new baby - the chirps change or they start rustling and I'm running over to check on them! haha

My 5 year old is excited about it! When we first presented the idea to him, he wanted no part of it. Now he won't leave them alone!

One question - how do I add the signature?? I figured out the avatar, but that was it! Thanks!!

Edit: (Read the one thread with the newbie questions) How did I find out about this site? I learned about it almost two years ago when I ran into the admin Rob at a mutual friend's wedding. I didn't take him seriously that his site was so big until recently and it's always the first one to come up and when I mentioned chickens other people were telling me about the site! Good job, Rob! Hi, welcome to BYC! Lurking is great on this site, but being a member is even better. Lots of folks addicted to chickens perfectly willing to share the addiction with you!

I lived in New Jersey (Neptune) as a child and have fond memories of fireflies and wild huckleberries. I'm sure your little one will have good memories of the chicks growing up. Such a great experience for kids!

Adding the signature can't be too hard (because I somehow managed it

) but I don't remember what to do! Mine says "edit your signature" in blue under where it shows up. Maybe try one of the buttons at the very top where is says to edit your profile. As you may have guessed, I'm not too swift when it comes to computers. Someone will help you with this!

Didn't even notice your location. I'm in Santa Rosa. There are great threads for meeting local CA folks.

California - Northern is very active and has wonderful people, although the area it covers is quite large, so local might mean Redding or Placerville or ??? It's a big state!

To add a signature: Click on My Profile at the top of the page. Once you get to your profile page, scroll almost to the bottom until you see Your Forum Signature. Below that will be Edit Signature Text.

So glad you joined out wonderful community! There are lots of great peeps up your way that have chickens and of course TONS more all over the interwebs too.

For anybody who's curious: I knew Risa WAY before I ever had chickens... way before I ever even contemplated having chickens (so be really nice to her so she'll convert all our co-friends into chicken owners!!!!)

Sheesh - if you've been married 11 years you knew me WAAAAAAAAAAY before you had chickens! hahaha!

And by the way - I haven't seen this elusive "Forum Signature" on my profile page. I have My Chickens, My Photos and that's about it. :/ Get on that Rob! ;)
