Hi,
I am so excited I am finally getting plugged in on this forum. I am a new chicken owner and we have an EE aka Biddy Mulley and a SLW. Both are 6 weeks old and they are so cute and too funny! I love our new additions, but I have also been a bit anxious with this experience. We bought our girls from a farm store as pullets but I am worried one maybe a roo. I hope not but I will probably post a pic of our SLW to see what others more experienced my think.
I hope she is a she and not a he. Our SLW is named Miracle, she has been through a lot! At 3 days old, my daughter went into the chick room unsupervised and the dog got in and attacked her, leaving a big hole under her wing :( . It looked like she was not going to make it but praise God she did! That was quite the experience for all of us but she has recovered well and carries a special place in my daughters heart. As our we are urban homesteaders that means a rooster is definitely not aloud. I would hate to have to ship "her" off to a farm : /
Well I guess that is all there is about me and our chickens thus far. Again I am sooo glad to be apart of this site and enjoy getting to read about everyone and their experience as Chicken owners!

Happy Chickens!

Welcome to BYC!

So sorry about the chick and dog attack! Generally dogs do not get along with chickens. Most dogs see chickens as dinner. So always be careful of the dog.

As for the gender of one of your chicks, you can post a pic of the "suspect" in our What Gender section for help with the sex...

Enjoy your new babies! Make yourself at home here on BYC and welcome to our flock!

Welcome. Sorry your dog did not like the chicken as a friend but as dinner. Suprisingly our bassett hound love our chickens. They climb up on her back when she is sleeping and rest or will ride her around like a horse.

T too funny. It does seem as though our declawed cat loves our chickens as friends she cuddles with them but the dog situation we knew we were going to possibly have issues with that. we had decided to wait to try and introduce them but my little girl had different plans apparently. we are thankful she is okay but it does look like my suspicions were correct Miracle is looking to be a rooster to others on backyard chicken. Lol so we will see I suppose how it all plays out. But thank you for the warm welcomes:)

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry Miracle might be a roo, s/he is one lucky chick to recover from the bite.
