Our first coop was right outside our bedroom window. 2:30 in the morning, pitch black and no moon, that $^#^!***< would wake up and start crowing. And crowing. And crowing...
We finally moved back to Texas for a little peace and quiet

Unfortunately yes. We only have hens right now. Our city doesn't allow roosters, even though we have 2 acres of land (we are considering fighting it).

You guys didn't even need an alarm clock with that rooster. Thanks for the words of advice. DO NOT HAVE COOP NEAR THE BEDROOM.

1. Yes, we are new to chickens. We got our girls on Easter weekend. We had wanted chickens for a while, but couldn't have them at our old house.

2. We have 6 chickens right now. We call our flock, Revhendel. A Lord of the Rings reference.

3. We have 2 Barred Rocks (Butterfly & Midnight), 2 Golden Lace Wyandottes (Marigold & Sunshine), 1 Sapphire Sky/Gem (Violet), and 1 Easter Egger (Lavender).

4. One of our favorite parts of raising backyard chickens is the way it helps us feel more connected to the land. We also enjoy learning. We built our coop from our own blueprints with zero experience. It has been quite the experience. We still have to finish the egg hutch and windows before winter.

5. Our other hobbies are hiking, camping, kayaking, stargazing, gaming, watching movies, gardening, growing houseplants, and cooking. Danielle likes anything artsy, and Rob loves building games.

6. We are a couple (Rob & Danielle) and we live in NE Ohio. We have 2 dogs, Gryffin (brittle) & Zora (b/w), and 2 cats, Kuro (tux) and Kiki (grey). Rob is a software engineer, and Danielle is a therapist-in-training.

7. The week prior to getting our girls, we found the BYC to read about the brooder care and such. Right around that time, we joined because we knew we would eventually have questions and wanted to connect with folks!
