Hi, I'm a dog groomer from Villa Park, Illinois. Got a chicken quite by accident. A teacher friend was incubating what she thought was duck eggs, when they hatched early and began dying she panicked and handed me off the only surviving chick. Not sure what happened to the others as this chick was a bit butt pasted when I got her.
I've been learning alot since I've been lurking here. Found out she's a Barred Rock Hen. she's 17 weeks now, I'm just waiting for my first egg to show up. That will help me to convince my DH that she's staying for a reason other than just being cute.
Although he's slow to admit it, she's fast becoming his favorite pet. We have 3 Belgian sheepdogs, 4 cats, a guinea pig (the chicken's best friend) and of course now... a chicken.
Well, I'll be seeing you all around, I'm sure I'll have questions since I've never had a chicken before. My DH is STILL saying "I can't believe we have a chicken!"
