welcome! I am very interested in your research, since two months ago I only thought of chicken as an egg producer, now I have 11 chicks and I am in love. I think I will be a chicken person for life!
I will throw out a big HELLO from SE Michigan as well! LOL Glad to see I'm not the only "stealth" chicken houser here! LOL Even though all of our surrounding cities allow keeping even a couple hens ... our city isn't budging.
So I decided I'm not waiting anymore! I got my first fuzzy-butts March 31 on a trip to TSC for wild bird food
Me and my 4 yr old daughter just COULDN"T resist! Bought 6 mixed bantam chicks and have been hoping for the best ... we ended up with 4 hens and 2 roos. I too have family that will take the extras, so they are getting one of the roos and 2 of the girls. The other roo I have to rehome soon. Both roos are beginning to try to crow now so it won't be long until I have to say goodbye
I don't know HOW I will do it as I am so in love with them. They are so much fun to watch and play with
As for being "stealth" chickens ... ours are housed in the basement with lights on a timer for now. I'm hoping to build them a little "secret" run outside near the house where nobody would really notice, so the girls we keep can at least get out for a bit on nice days. We were SUPPOSE to be in a bigger house with property buy now ... but ...
Hopefully in the next couple years we can get there. Until then ... we are in "stealth" mode here with our feathered illegal occupants! LOL

In addition to my 3 leghorns, 2 black australorps and 5 ducks, I just picked up 3 each of buff orpingtons and black sex links on Wednesday. So I am reallying going to have to get into "stealth mode".
Right now the birds are on the far side of the yard and garage where the jerk neighbor can't see. The other neighbors are cool with my birds and bees, so no worries there.
The only thing that concerns me is the 2 leghorn roos. I hope they never learn to crow!
Anyway, back to building my chicken tractor...it's disquised as a raised bed planter.

LOL ... I don't know HOW you keep in "stealth" mode with that many. LOL I have to move my roos ASAP as they are learning to crow and I can't keep a rooster here if I want to keep my girls ... the roos will certainly break our "stealth" cover.
I'm already starting to hear the boys in the EARLY morning, praying the neighbors can't yet. Since I have 1 home lined up for one of the roos, that means I only have to find 1 more home. Not fun since I'm loving ALL my chicks at this point and parting with them will be hard.
But at least the 1 roo and 2 girls are going to my cousin, so we should be able to keep updated on them and see them from time to time.
