(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am sooooo new to chickens. I’ve wanted them for years but have put off taking the plunge. My fiancé finally talked me into it since we are both furloughed right now and have the time to raise babies and build a coop.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
6 that are about 2.5 weeks old.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Not sure. The farm supply store told us they were hatcheries choice. I keep seeing other chicks that I think look like ours but I think we’ll have to wait until their feathers are in to really know.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
So far I’m enjoying seeing their personalities come out. I also get a kick out of hope excited they get when I put my hand in their brooder with some chia seeds.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I’m a pretty avid gardener, mostly veggies for the last few years but I’m finally getting round to putting in some flower beds with all this free time. I also love hiking and camping and outdoorsy stuff in general. I like to knit when it’s cold out and I enjoy doing all kinds of arts and crafts.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
my fiancé and I live together in a little house with a big yard. We have a dog I adopted when I was in Guatemala a few years ago, a 13 year old cat and a 1 year old cat.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
Y’all are almost always the first site to pop up when I’m googling for chicken info and the info seems sound so it made sense to join and have more access.

Hi Lexi! Do you know what hatchery the farm store gets its chickens from? I knew mine was Hoover's, so I got online and looked at its catalog until I narrowed down the three possible breeds for my mystery girl. I was fairly sure I had it figured out and was thrilled when her first blue egg confirmed my guess that she was a Prairie Bluebell Egger.

No matter what the breed, I'm sure you will adore them and have great adventures ahead. Welcome to BYC!
