Hi I’m new to owning a silkie chicken

I own a beautiful white silkie chicken, she is my first. I received her for Mother’s Day. She loves to be held and she will cuddle with me. My grandsons are very good with her and help with her every day. I’m lucky that I can at least say I get to cuddle with a chicken. She also likes to lightly peck on my mole on my neck too.

Oh I never told you all my little girls name. Since my grandsons are big fans of Star Wars they named her Princess Lay-A

You're in good company here, many on this forum are quite fond of their silkies.
Does your chicken have other chicken friends?

Unfortunately her other friend passed away a few weeks back. It was my 4 year old grandsons. So I had it cremated for him, so when he goes home to Be with his mother he can take her with.

I have been looking for another baby silkie to put in with her, but I’m not having any luck here. So I give her my attention, plus my conour talks to her by copying her.

You should consider friends. I don't recommend less than 3 birds total.
More silkies would be best but any bantam would be better than being alone.
They're called flock animals for a reason, they live in flocks.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome. Thank you for the compliment on my baby girl. She is so fluffy and I brush her at least twice a week. I gave her, her first bath a few weeks back because her sibling that we had, didn’t make it and she was laying on top of her. She is a very sweet little lady and I give her all my attention when I am not too only goes outside when I take her busy cleaning the house. She is being kept inside my house and I only take her outside when it’s nice and no other animals are around.

We have a House Silkie, too. His name is Herman, and he's as sweet as your little lady. They're SO neat to have around. Herman even gets along with our cats!

That’s adorable. How old is Herman? Mine is 11 weeks old today.

A silkie is the only chicken I've met that seemed to fare OK as a lone chicken. It too lost its only friend. It too was a house chicken living with dogs and cats. I think it ruled the roost and thought it was a cat.

Yeah my grandsons chicken thought she was the head honcho, she would get mad if I picked up lay-A. Fog horn didn’t like her leaving their brooder. I’m planning on ordering some fertilized eggs next year and let her hatch them. I plan on keeping one but selling the rest.
