That's a special trip to the grocery store for most families ... but definitely a staple here. Oyster sauce (like "duck sauce," named for what it's served with, not what it's made of) is key in Asian cooking. It's kinda like Cumin for Mexican cuisine and Five Spice for Chinese ... if there's something "missing" in your dish, that's probably it!

Huh, didn't know there was no oyster in oyster sauce. I don't like seafood so the name put me off it. Might buy some then

I don't like oysters but oyster sauce is really good. I drizzle some on a steak when I am cooking steak.
