I adopted two chickens in June last year, Honey, a buff wyandotte and Beatrice, a buff orpington, sadly just a few weeks later Beatrice disappeared and after an hour of searching, I found a plie of feathers in our back woods, I think she had wandered in and met mr fox.
Honey enjoys company, humans, lambs, cats and rabbits but I figured she needed some chicken friends so I'm in the process of hatching some for her (I set 6 wyandotte eggs and 6 silkies, last Friday) This site has been a fantastic source of information and I am thrilled that there are so many other chicken lovers out there. I didn't know what I was missing, Honey lays an egg nearly every day, she comes when she's called and puts herself to bed everynight ready for shutting in the coop at dusk. She only gets to free range when I'm home, during the day when I'm working (I'm an Occupational Therapist) she has a nice safe run.
Apart from chickens, I have three cats and two rabbits, one farmer husband who has 300 beef cattle and 500 sheep! and a 14 year old son who wants to be a rock star (drummer) . I love photography and the scottish countryside.
I found the site on google when looking for info about hatching chicks, what a great find. I'm looking forward to reading more posts and making new friends!

Fàilte!! I'm going back to Scotland ((FINALLY!!)) next month. I can't wait to be back! Welcome to BYC, the forums are addicting and you can find yourself losing hours chatting with other chicken friends. Slàinte mhath!

Hello there from another Scot! Well, North American for generations, but a good share of my roots are there with you! My ancestors came from Scotland to Nova Scotia with their bagpipes, then kept coming west.

Yes, isn't it amazing how, once you keep chickens, it is impossible to imagine life w/o them anymore?

Does your farmer man have Scottish Blackface sheep? I am getting a few SBF lambs this season for fleece/rug-weaving and can't wait...

Welcome!

My husband has visited Scotland some time ago and loved it there! There was so much to see and very little time to do, as he said. One day we would love to visit Scotland with our chicken friends there!
