So we have 3 chicks and 1 egg, and everything seems fine with the chicks. How long do I leave the last egg with her? I keep hearing about the egg bomb, sound like an adventure I don't want to have. We went and got some chick starter feed but I noticed that they pick at her layer crumbs. I know that it is mostly the same with the exception of the size of the feed. Any issue with them eating her feed?
The layer mix is probably too high in protein and calcium. The starter should be medicated, in order to build their immunity to coccidia. As for the egg , if it were a stinker, you should be able to smell it by now
Completely adorable !
Congrats !! Those that had gone a couple of days over in my hatch I did crack and help out because here we had gone through a really prolonged dry spell and the eggs that had hatched had been very hard and the membrane really thick. I would candle and if theres a chick then decide if you think it might need a little help.
I did candle the egg. It was all dark, and also it 'sloshed' when I moved it. So I opened it. It had a yellow-brownish liquid inside, and no yolk. Also it didn't smell. I went back to check on Sue after and she seemed calmer then before, so maybe things can get back to normal for her now.
