Hi, joined looking for answer.

You have to try and look at from the hens perspective . She's been sitting on eggs, half starved herself and up pops a peep

. When chickens are curious they peck at things. Lets just hope it doesn't become too aggressive . Chicks naturally dive for cover under mum and that gives her a little more time to become accustomed to the little ones moving around under her. Keep an eye on things and only intervene if you have to.

Just to add to the last one, 3 of my 4 children got to watch the chick hatch. They are only ages 3 (twins boy and girl) and 2, but it seemed to have a big impact as they kept telling me Sue was having a baby like mommy had baby Lukey! Luke is 7 months old.

You can't put a price on the lessons of life you are teaching your little ones. 4 babies under the age of 4 , wow you could teach Sue a few things about motherhood.

I remember the first night after we got home with the twins, the wife and I were scared and didn't what to do or where to turn. I guess Sue must have been in a similar position. Too bad she had to kill the little thing, but hopefully things go better with the other three, (possible four) chicks

So I got home and checked on them before it got too dark tonight. Sue now has 3 new chicks! One is a yellow ball of fuzz, one looks like it could be a racer with a center yellow streak and 2 dark brown race strips down the sides of it head and one looks like her. The one that looks like her I found quite a distance from her and it was cold. Still peeping and moving so I moved it closer to momma and it crawled under her breast and Sue seemed ok with it. Also the other 2 were very lively running in and out from underneath her. I thought I could hear another peep from under her but I wasn't positive. There were 4 eggs in total. I will try getting pics on Wednesday as I am working again tomorrow.
