Hi, joined looking for answer.

Just a quick update as I am in the middle of working night shifts right now, Sue is still on the eggs and no way in heck will she be moved and she is seems to be more aggressive with anyone getting close to her. She is still feeding and drinking but only for a minute and back to her eggs. Only a couple of weeks and we will know the answer.

Just an update. She will not budge from the eggs. She had started to become lethargic so I set the food next to her. Then this morning she was moving but she wouldn't open her eyes so I moved the water closer to her. By this evening she seems back to normal, but still wont get up from the eggs. I have looked the calander over and I think tomorrow will be 21 days. Quite exciting, but also not trying to get my hopes up too much. Another question, how well do goats and chickens go together/interact?

So as best I could tell, last night would have been 21 days and nothing. How much longer should I wait? When will she stop being broody and start moving around and laying again? What if I introduced young birds 6-7 weeks old to her now? I am not surprised that nothing has come from her sitting, but a little disappointed that it didn't happen anyway.

Maybe you should wait another day or so? Or maybe she has hatched chicks under her and is just waiting another day before she leaves the nest? My hens don't stop being broody after 21 days are over. I don't know how long they might continue, but when I'm sure that nothing will hatch I just take them off the nest, change the nest boxes around a little and usually they will stop being broody...

21 days is only an estimate! It can range between 18-25 days. If after that time you feel you want to introduce chicks the best thing to do would get some day old chicks and pop them under her at night when you take the eggs away. She will be none the wiser and chickens can't count, so even a couple of chicks will keep her happy.

So, Sue was quite active this morning when I opened the door to the coop. So I checked the eggs and 4 out of the 5 I suspect are nothing. They feel heavy, I don't know if that means anything or not. The last egg I picked up was very light. I thought maybe the egg and yolk just dehydrated or something, but then I heard something. Maybe a squeak, so I held it to my ear and there was definitely a tapping and scratching sound coming from inside! I wonder how much longer? Sue seems much better but she is still pretty nasty, she did manage to catch a hold of my finger at one point. Not as bad as I thought it would be but still I don't want her to get me again.
