I have 13 chickens and 2 roosters out on Long Island, NY. My son wanted chickens so him and his friend converted an old shed into a coop. At that time we had 4. My husband wanted to get involved so he made the run. My husband wanted more chickens and ordered 9 more. My son was overwhelmed with so many chickens that he let his father take over. One of our roosters is humorous and mean and my husband is afraid of him. The rooster took to my son with no problems. Still to this day my son is the only one who can go near him. Soooo my son and my husband both left the responsibility up to me. The first mistake was getting the chicks and not really knowing how to care and raise them. I went in blind and learning a few new things every day. The rooster hates me so every time I go into the run I have a shield so he doesn’t hurt me. Sometimes I go in without my boots on and with a shield and my legs are so scared up. One time he got me real bad on my foot I couldn’t walk for three days then another three with crutches. My foot blew up. Well anyway I guess I’ve said enough. That’s me in a nut shell. Thanks
