Hey, everyone - new here but have been visiting the site for a few months in preparation for bringing home my new hens, which I've had for a little more than a month now. I've found a lot of interesting and helpful information here, and there seems to be a wealth of knowledge from lots of people. Happy to have found this site!

I'm based in Northern CA. This is not the first time I've had chickens, but it is as an adult. We had chickens (and other farm animals when I was a kid), and now that I moved to a house with a large backyard (and a coop already here), I decided I was ready to have them again. All of my hens are 7 months and under, and they are all different breeds. So far, only one is laying, and she came to me that way from a Feed Supply store.

Thanks for all the info I've already found here, and in advance for all the info I'm sure to find in the future!

Welcome! How great to have a coop all ready to go! How many chickens and what breeds did you get?
Hi, and thanks! The coop is pretty junky, but it IS secure. I have five hens and 1 of these breeds (listed in age and laying order): Cinnamon Queen (5 or 6 months old, not sure as got from farm center already laying baby eggs); Buff Orpington, Barred Rock (both almost 19 weeks old), Easter Egger, Olive Egger (about 15 weeks old and sisters from the same Copper Marans father).
