New here but have been visiting often after I got my first hens. Though they were Rhode islands but they turned out to be production layers. Only had 6 hens but never knew they could lay that many eggs! They didn't even stop for winter! So I found them a new home did some reading (BYC) and got sumer hens. Ana rooster this time. More BYC reading. Roosters will crow if they wake up or if I wake them up. If they wake up at 1 a.m. they still crow!

Hello and Welcome to BYC. Glad that you have joined this poultry loving community.
If it wasn't for Peanut (my dog) I wouldn't have gotten my reds. Lol. She caught 2 of my neighbors free range hens when they got in my pasture and brought em home. Not a scratch on em. She thought somehow that they were mine( had none at the time) and they had gotten out( no pen- just a barn). Now when the hens git out, she just lays there and watches me chase em round the coop til I get them back in.
