Have fun planning your coop! It took me a long time to figure out how to make a larger coop fit in my cramped suburban backyard and still have enough "yard" for my chickens, but also keep them from destroying my garden and everything else in the landscape. Phew, I think I have it all under control now!
Good luck starting your new flock!

Hello! Welcome to BYC!! :frow

Have you gotten your coop/run planned out yet? If you have any interest, and have photos and plans/details of the coop you've built (or are going to build), there is a coop article contest going on right now! Here is a link:

Feel free to check out the links below for some interesting reading.
Thank you !!! I do not have plans yet, I am currently in the research phase and am looking forward to learning about more coops. My main split right now is purchasing a premade coop vs making my own!

Hi Carina, it's nice to have you here with us!

I'd strongly encourage you to build a coop (or modify a shed). The pre-built coops are expensive, made cheaply and are usually way too small (ignore what the packaging says).

Best of luck and have fun getting back into raising poultry!

You would be better off to build you own coop and use good materials. I've read how the pre-made ones may look cute but, won't hold up the weather. Their descriptions generally say they can hold x number of birds comfortably. When they are really too confining for half the number.

Please check out the coop section of BYC, and Welcome to the pulse beat of the chicken
community.
