Is it possible it was a lash egg? Did you happen to dissect it? Lash eggs are fleshy lumps of infected material that sometimes get mistaken for half developed chicks.

Oh my goodness. Yes, that looks like it. No, I didn’t dissect it. I would have no idea which chicken it is either. They all act healthy.

Yes. This is most likely what it was. I have had no more of them and all my hens look healthy. Thank you so much.

Keep an eye in them, it might be tough to figure out which bird is the sick one but she may start showing more signs over time and at that time you may want to look into treatment options. I just got a lash egg myself a few days ago, so that's what made me wonder if what you saw was a lash egg.

Will do. I read another article about it and one of the obvious symptoms seems to be “penguin foot” or what I would call pigeon foot. I don’t see any of that but will keep a lookout for it.

I would also have suspected a lash egg. I found this in a nest box before. I use pine shaving in my nest boxes

I use pine shavings now but I don’t know what the person who had them before me used.

I just mentioned the pine shaving because some were stuck to the lash egg.
