Hiding From Sunlight - A Dystopian Role-Play

Violet looked up drowsily. Then she realized what had happened. "Yes!" She replied, scared. "I'm in station 10!" She jumped out of bed and ran to the door. "We'll run silently through the halls until we get to the door. Then you lead the way to that person you told me about. Hurry! The sun rises soon!" She thrust the door opened silently and motioned for Wren to follow her. She sprinted silently through the halls until they got to the door. She opened it as quietly as possible. She couldn't believe it. The place she had worked so hard to get out of for so long was escaped from so easily. She ran out the door into the chilly night air. The sun hadn't risen yet, but she knew when it did she would have to hide. "Lead the way!" She said to Wren as she closed the factory door.
"It can't be that easy," Wren muttered, glancing around after they exited the building. There. Tucked in the eaves of the warehouse were evenly-spaced security cameras. "Violet, we have to get out of here. NOW!" But even as she turned to run she knew it was too late. A group of soldiers rounded the corner, their faces covered and strange-looking devices in their hands. Her heart sank when she saw the sound-canceling headphones the soldiers were wearing. "Cover your ears and run! Split up! I'll explain later! Go!" She shouted above the piercing noise beginning to come from the machines the soldiers were holding. "RUN!" Her yell echoed off the alley walls.
(*Watches intensely*)

Violet turned her head around. They should have thought this through more clearly. She covered her ears and sprinted into a maze like alley and ran as fast as she possibly could. She memorized the way she was going as she ran. She found a trash can that was empty and she jumped into it. She kept her ears covered and she hoped the soldiers had passed her. But for all she knew they might be right outside, waiting for her to step out. She hoped desperately that they hadn't caught the strange girl. And if they did it's all my fault. Thought Violet desperately. I was the one who pulled her in the warehouse. I could have just told her to go away and I could have eventually escaped on my own. Violet hadn't heard anything through her covered ears. Not even the slightest noise. She dared to peek out of the trash can just a tiny bit. She let out a sigh of relief because she didn't see any soldiers. She hopped out of the trash can and began timidly walking along the ally. She walked along the way she had tried to memorize on the way there, but she had been running and she took a wrong turn. "Darn!" She said as she came to a dead end. She kept trying to get out but she just got more and more lost. She sat down in despair when she heard a voice above her. She looked up to see a bird sitting there. "Great." She muttered to herself. "First rats and now birds! What will I hallucinate next?" The voice sounded again and she looked at it. It had sounded like it had said "Follow me." Or something like that. But when it got up and flew away Violet followed it anyhow. She soon found herself out of the maze. She looked up in astonishment at the bird, who seemed to wink at her. It turned around and flew away. "Thank you!" Violet called softly after it.

Violet watched the bird fly away for a moment. Then she realized, birds only come out in day. "Oh no." She whispered. She looked at the horizon, which had the faintest trace of light in it. She had to hide, now. She looked frantically around for the girl. She didn't know her name, so she couldn't call for her. She ran and looked rapidly for her. But she was nowhere in sight.

Violet looked at the sky again. The sky was getting more light. She ran into a shadow and crouched there. She watched in despair as the sun rose, but still she kept hiding in the shadow. The sun was the brightest thing she had ever seen. Much brighter than the lights in the warehouse. Where is the girl? Thought Violet. I hope she's ok. I hope she finds me soon. I need a better place to hide. Fear prickled at her spine as dawn was halfway over and the sunlight threatened to touch her skin. It licked hungrily at the cement in front of her.

Wren ducked around the soldiers and ran, sprinting through the narrow alleyways. After a while she doubled back the way that Violet had ran, searching for her. Finally she found her, huddled in a shadow with a panicked look on her face. "Violet! There you are!" Wren ran up to her and collapsed on the ground next to her, trying to catch her breath. "Okay. first, I figure you ought to know my name: I'm Wren. And no, I don't remember my last name. Second, I have a little theory," she said, sobering. "See, I'm a twin. My father only had time to get my chip removed before they came. They took my sister, Sparrow, to this horrid factory. I managed to hide, but the next morning my parents didn't remember me. They--they called the authorities on 'a strange, crazy girl' claiming to be their daughter," she whispered, tears streaming down her face, "So I ran. And I didn't come back. I've been here on the streets ever since. Anyway," she cleared her throat, wiping at her eyes, "I played in the sun for NINE YEARS with my sister. She's not allergic to the sun," she said, almost spitting the word. "And my theory is, that neither are you." On that last word she grabbed Violet's hand and pulled it toward her, where the beaming rays of the sun shone on it.

Violet found herself pulled out into the sun. It felt warm and bright compared to the cold and dark factory. She couldn't believe it. She had based her entire life off of lies. "Thanks." She said to Wren. "They lied to us. They lied about our lives, what happened to us, and everything." She looked at Wren. "Now let's go find that person you told me about." She smiled. "I can't wait for me to be without my chip."

"Come on then!" Wren led the way through twisted narrow alleyways until they reached Matt's hideout. "This way." She headed up the stairs and knocked gently on his door, once, twice, once, and three times.

Matt whirled "That`s got to be the rebellion." He muttered walking over to the stairs and looked at her "Wren? Who is that?"
