High Heat !!!

Wonders if the bricks in the water pan wold work where it's humid?

I would think if the water is in the shade it would be much cooler than the temperature thus making the bricks cooler and feel really good to the chickens’ feet. I guess it is the same principle as me stepping in a puddle of pool water that’s on the shady side of the pool (kiddie pool). It feels really good. Probably wouldn’t if the rest of my body was wet though.

Any food scraps I may have to give them also go in the freezer before serving. :p

That's new to me-we typically toss everything in a small counter container before I take it out to the compost bin. Now I'm wondering how to make that work using the freezer or fridge.

I just have a ziplock bag that I throw everything into. Then during the heat of the day I will give that to them as snacks.

Someday I want a side by side refrigerator just for the animals. But for now, I rinse the outside of the milk jugs of water & the water bottles & place into a large trash bag that I have in my personal chest freezer. I figure only the inside of the trash bag gets dirty. They are then frozen & ready the next morning. The challenge is having room in the freezer as I start harvesting more vegetables in the garden!

I just bought a mister (only cost $22) but boy was it worth it! A fine mist hits them in one part of the run, so they can go in and out of it at will. And I do see them enjoying the mist! They aren't panting like they were, and it's over 100 here in the high desert. Hosing down the run first thing in the morning, then turning the mister on has worked for me. Oh, and they get a "popsicle," (fruit cocktail frozen into ice cubes) every day that it's hot. This has made a world of difference.
