Did you see the picture of Harvey on the swap thread??

I am looking forward to the swap, now if I could just get the kids to pick up the yard we will be all set

They have stuff scattered from one end to the other.... Hopefully now that the rain has stopped - for now anyway - my coop will dry and not smell like a hog farm

Jason said he wants to build a new one this summer and use gravel as the base so it will drain

We will just tear down the old one. I will probably keep the inner coop, just build up the floor on it, and use it as a breeder pen.
Ok, gotta go now...

Looking at moving to High Springs with my family, pets, bees and chickens. I also want some dairy goats. Anyone still out there in High Springs area keeping chickens that I can talk to and learn about the area?

Hey HighSpringsChix!

Did you see the pics of your Dels I got from you on the Delaware thread? They are soooo beautiful!

To the OP
I have been in High Springs for 7 years and LOVE it! I don't have goats only because of my dogs

Happy to help any way that I can

Where are you at now?

Good to hear back from you guys! I am currently in SW FL (Cape Coral). My husband and I both attended UF and enjoyed visiting the High Springs/Alachua area recently, where the latter of which I saw a mama chicken and a string of peeps walking along a neighborhood road just as free as you please (which I loved). We are interested in urban farming so that we can grow our fruit/veg/herbs on our property, raise up our chickens, have our bees, and still be close enough to walk/bike to things like library, store, bank, post office. I would also like to get 1 or 2 milking goats, but do not have any currently. I saw some cute properties near the downtown area but was told that I would be unable to have chickens or goats there.

I was told I would have to live further out on larger property to keep any "farm" animals. It is important that if I make the effort/expense to move I am moving to somewhere that will be a good fit for my family and will ALLOW me to follow my urban farming dreams. I look forward to any feedback you all have.

As an aside, I homeschool my 3 kids (always have) and wonder what the area is like for homeschoolers and people from a more progressive bent. Last thing I would want would be to be burned at a stake or something,

Any thoughts on that?

I actually find this area to be very friendly to homeschoolers. My old neighbor who recently moved up north to take care of her sick mom homeschooled all 3 of their kids. Their property here is currently being rented, but is for sale. It's 5 acres (fenced) and we border O'leno State Park. They were best friends with my kids (they all happened to be the same ages - go figure!). Also a couple of girls in my girl scout troop that I co-lead are homeschooled. I am exactly 2 miles from High Springs Community school and 1 mile outside of the city limits. We are also about 3 1/2 miles from downtown HS. I have tons of animals here, the neighbor to the other side has geese and the neighbor across the road raises camels (the also have some monkeys, horses, miniature spotted donkeys and a ZEBRA).

We moved here from Ft. Myers We lived in Ft. Myers Shores.....
