Hmm, mess up at the store? Is this a Welsummer?

I think your chick in question is a wellie pullet...the ones I have do have bright yellow legs and the boys had combs by day 2 I swear! These are boys but see their legs... Oh and all of my hens have big spurs and they are the best layers even though they are getting old...I'd be happy :)

Oh they are so cute Mrs. Evans! Very handsome roos! I have had two roosters since chicks and I don't remember them getting their combs in so suddenly! So fascinating that they all grow at different pace.

What a beauty dread! And spurs!? Crazy!

dbid, I can see how they might have thought your SS was a roo.. The comb is fairly large, but my girl seems to have a larger comb too. Her breast is as speckled as yours is. She seems to be a she- has a long tail already.

since we are on the subject, I have a chick about 5 weeks old don't know if it's a welsummer or brown leghorn also but after seeing your chick I'm thinking mine is a welsummer. They look different
whatever it is, it looks like a boy to me. .

I've got some 'one week later' pics to share. Don't know if these would be helpful at all but decided to post anyway.

The first are of my SS. They are about 5 week now.

She is really sweet! Very curious and always one of the first out of the brooder. The same for my one in question- The possible Welsummer or Brown Leghorn. Anyone able to tell what she is by these photos? Is the earlobe colored yet, or does it still need more time. I took some close ups of her head for that reason alone.

They are both darlings! This little one in question is spunky and adventurous.

anyone think it could be an oegb? the only thing about mine that screams roo is the comb but I'm really feeling pullet. I'm keeping it either way because I can have a roo and we don't have one yet but it just isn't acting like a roo. maybe it's a pullet that is just maturing fast or maybe it's normal for whatever breed it is. Funny you call yours sparrow, I've been calling mine finch, lol. I Was looking at its feathering and the hackles coming in are black round tipped feathers but the pattern is gold "v" design on them?
6littlechicks,

I somehow missed your post... Yeah, I didn't have a better name for her off hand. She was just very small brown bird-like! I like 'finch' too.

About the feathers... I don't know if they are hers, and I suspect they are, but I have been finding small feathers deposited and they have a black "V" with white tips. They are brown until the black "v". They could be from my SS too. I don't know.

Those are some good looking chickens...
I am assuming you are talking about mine?
