Ho much do you sell your eggs for?

I am getting $1.50 a dozen here in SE Indiana. I had a lady tell me if I raised them to $2.00, she would STILL buy my eggs. Hmmmmm. For now, I will stay at $1.50 and see how the feed prices go.
Also...I posted on our local Freecycle " Needed: Egg cartons. I will give you a dozen Farm Fresh Brown/blue/green eggs, for 12 empty, clean egg cartons."
I have gotten so many replys, and in one day, got 50 cartons, and gave out 4 dozen eggs. NOT BAD! I have 22 dozen in the fridge!

My girls are laying thier little hearts out right now! 36 hens = 2 dozen a day. Not bad!
I also picked up 3 new customers! Woohoo! Now, watch, the girls will stop laying! LOL

I get 3.00 a dozen. and no complaints. My only problem is word of mouth and Im getting more customers than my hens can support.

Shop Rite (large supermarket her) has farm fresh eggs (really good and very big) $3.29 I was going to charge the ladies at the library $3.00 if mine ever get large enough. I am in NJ.

I think I'm going to sell $2.00 a dozen starting out and give them a .25 cent discount if they bring the carton back next time they want to buy. Commercial eggs are selling for 2.00 a dozen at Wal-Mart, at the moment. I haven't checked the local grocery store.

Oh! I love the discount idea!

I thought it'd be better, since you can reuse cartons (until they fall apart or get dirty) than having to always order cartons. Plus it keeps them coming back!

Is it legal to sell eggs in used cartons? I was under the impression that because of the fear of contamination it wasn't.............. Perhaps the question I should ask is: at what point is no longer permissible to reuse cartons?

The rules of Oklahoma (and each state is different) are: if I sell them off the property where the birds are kept, I do not have to have to be certified or have any special permits. I only have to mark the container I sell them in with that nifty salmonella warning lable and that they are ungraded eggs.

If a carton was visably dirty, filthy, torn, or otherwise unusable I would not accept the carton for a discount. I'd specify that they be clean and whole. I may even just transfer the eggs from my container to theirs, to save on the misconceptions.
