rofl.. i think you had the iffiest chicks ever... how are all your babies doing?? did you pick a name for our favorite yet??

I lost one more EE hen last night. It was one that had an injured wing from the rats yesterday. It either died and a goat sat on it or a goat sat on it and it died. Under the circumstances, it is hard to tell. I let the goats out this morning and kicked the roosters out when I realized they were getting mean about the food. "Hey, guys, these chicks are going to grow up to be HENS, so play nice!"

Sorry for your loss neferset-

I've gone a little numb over it. It's more like, "Not another one!" than

anymore. I am debating trying to put them back into a brooder until they are a little bigger. There are only 10 now. Maybe they will stop stomping each other to death?

aaawww nef.. i'm sorry....

once these next couple of swaps and trains that i'm involved in are over, if you want some of my EE eggs to hatch, let me know.... if you want to wait till summer i may even be able to send you olive eggers..

oohhh wait, roosters mature faster than hens right?? so if i do get a rooster out of these marans i'm getting , i might be able to breed him to my green egged lucy in time and send you EE eggs and peacock eggs... oh that would be fun...

I think we need to wait until spring is sprung before getting more or hatching more. I am already worried about what to do with our current chicks when they need to exit the brooders. It depends on how bad the rat wars get. But I will gratefully take you up on that. The goats usually don't mean any harm to chicks, but they sometimes get into bad places and you know how goats push and shove. Bubba Goat was raised with bantam hens and roosters and takes an interest in chicken affairs. So hopefully there won't be any more losses.

At least I think that's Murphy. He and his older siblings are a little difficult to tell apart now. I took the picture of the big one with the less developed wing feathers, which seems right.

lol... i can't tell any of mine apart... pokey is still orangish from me trying to dye him... but gimpy has lost his ID stripe i put on his head so i could keep an eye on him and he's running and playing with the rest like normal now.. so they are back to being painintheass, loud, noisy, annoying and nuisance interchangably.....

i guess it's kinda like george forman naming all his kids george...

i don't care what your name is quit doing whatever you were doing that i was yelling at you for!!
