Holy Moly! I have a BROODY! 2 babies hatched :)

Congrats on your broody! I never heard of a barred rock that went broody. My friend Freebie's Buff is sitting on 16 eggs! This her 2nd year of going broody and she is a excellent mother. There is nothing like the experience of seeing a hen actually hatch her own brood. Good luck and I hope your barred rock keeps it up.

Congrats MsPrissy on your broody. I too woke up to three (3) broody hens this morning. They have spent the past three days and nights on the nest each with a glass egg. With no roo and no fertile eggs on the place it is quite an ordeal as to what to do. Good luck with your brood.

I just love broodies. I haven't let mine hatch out their eggs. Mine are hatchery quality, although I love them, and I don't want to have that quality chicks, I would much rather have some beautiful blues and blacks from you or Cyn or Jody.

You need some buff orps to go with your lot of orps! Get in touch with Jody and get a dozen or 2 to share among them.

I actually had a RIR go broody. She has been broody for about a week now. Let me tell you she is quite a crank. I went to go and collect eggs and she just about bit my hand off when she was first starting to sit. Needless to say I did not put my hand back there but rather made my dad do it lol. Question though. I have tried to move my broodies because I swear they always sit in the worst spots but everytime I try to move them it seems to break them. Any tips on how to move them.

And congrats on the broody.

Move them at night while they are sleeping and it is dark and they are still in that catatonic state.

Congrats Miss Prissy!

My silly little banties go broody on a regular basis (fortunately I don't have much market for their eggs) but I have yet to have a broody standard. Not that mine are that old anyway, just that I've had to break broodiness on just 2 young banty pullets a number of times compared to 20+ standards never showing a hint.

Anyways, congrats! I hope it works out! I just LOVE the photos I've seen of hens with their chicks. I'd love to have that some day too, so I hope for you that yours will incubate and raise the babies. Good luck!

My BO broody is really nice for a broody. She lets me pet her and take the eggs out for a quick candling (I have to cause I can't move her so shes in a nest box where all the other chickens like to lay their eggs). My sisters named her Big Momma last year when she hatched 3 chicks out. This is her second hatching.

Congrats to you! So far this year my marans are being reliable broodies. I have 1 with 6 chicks,1 possibly with newly hatched chicks now,1 due in about 2 weeks and one giving the matter serious thoughts. I love 'em.
